Topic : Reading Math Symbols

A. Things I’ve learned

Symbols
A mathematical symbol is a figure or a combination of figures that is used to
represent a mathematical object, an action on mathematical objects, a relation
between mathematical objects, or for structuring the other symbols that occur in a
formula. As formulas are entierely constitued with symbols of various types, many
symbols are needed for expressing all mathematics.
1. +
Denotes addition and is read as plus
Example : 5+4 ( five plus four )
2. –
Denotes subtraction and is read as minus
Example : 4-2 ( four minus two )
3. X
In elementary arithmetic, denotes multiplication
Example : 5 x 4 ( five multiplied by four )
4. ÷
Shows divisions and is read as divided
Example : 9 ÷ 9 ( nine divided by three is three )
5. =
Read as equals
6. ≠
Read as not equals to
7. >
Read as larger than, greater than
8. <
Read as smaller than, less than
9. ≥
Read as greater than or equal to
10. ≤
Read as less than or equal to
Fractions
fraction describes how many parts of a certain size there are, for example, one-half,
eight-fifths, three-quarters. We have 3 types of fraction :

1. Proper Fraction
The numerator is less than the denominator
Examples: 1/3, 3/6, 4/7
2. Improper Fraction
The numerator is greater than (or equal to) the denominator
Examples: 9/3, 17/4, 9/9
3. Mixed Fraction
A whole number and proper fraction together
Examples: 1 1/5, 2 1/8, 18 2/6

Decimals
In algebra, a decimal number can be defined as a number whose whole number part
and the fractional part is separated by a decimal point. The dot in a decimal number is called
a decimal point. The digits following the decimal point show a value smaller than one.
Examples : 0.7 ( zero point seven )
0.44 ( zero point four four )
Geometry
Geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies the sizes, shapes, positions angles
and dimensions of things. Flat shapes like squares, circles, and triangles are a part of flat
geometry and are called 2D shapes. These shapes have only 2 dimensions, the length and the
width.

B. The aspect still difficult

I'm still having trouble with exponential material

C. My next strategy
I will learn more about exponent material and memorize it
