CRITIQUE PAPER

The article for critique gives an in-depth discussion regarding the life
of the national hero of the Philippines, Dr. Jose Rizal. Paramount in the
article discussion is the author’s agreeable view about Rizal just like Jose
Rizal is the person who is not only admired for possessing intellectual
brilliance but also for taking a stand and resisting the Spanish colonial
government. While his death sparked a revolution to overthrow the
tyranny, Rizal will always be remembered for his compassion towards the
Filipino people and the country.

Evident from the very succinct statements in the article, this write-up
was written from a purely liberal perspective. The author was attempting
to send a message regarding understanding and embracing the life and
contribution of Dr. Jose Rizal. He mentioned that Rizal was very well-
known for his brilliance, courage and compassion in bringing significant
and memorable contributions to the native land due to the books published
by Rizal – Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. The author also
successfully mentioned the complete education of Rizal which can serve as
a motivation and inspiration to the youth for their studies.

The article was long and precise; however I would like to recommend
to the author that he could include the famous sayings of Rizal just like the
“the pen was mightier than the sword” because it can add colour to the
article.

Jose Rizal is the past and present of the freed and

independent Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. He chose to fight for his
country through knowledge and the power of letters. He noticed the
continued suffering of his countrymen at the hands of the Spaniards and
sought to put an end to this situation
The article discusses in detail the life, education, hardships,
achievements, and legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal. Overall, I found the article
very interesting. The article gave a substantial amount of data, and
included some attractive graphic illustrations. It was obvious that the
author of the article did not specify the struggles that Rizal experienced. As
a critical thinker, I was satisfied in the facts that were included, it is for the
reader to understand and have a good perspective to our national hero.
However the article could have been greatly enhanced if the life and
motivational sayings or quotes from Rizal was included.
