Cantadora V 2.0 - Funcatioanlties & Features
Welcome to Srishti Internal Resource Base “Cantadora”. This repository is your gateway to organized
resources comprising of ebooks, videos, journals/ magazines, audio resources and web archives. Content is
accessible through multiple pathways.

*Cantadora in Spanish means “The keeper and distributor of stories in the folk tradition”. The word came to me from the book
“Women who run with the Wolves - Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype” by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

*TroVega ( search engine ) name is derived thus :

The name TroVega It is derived from the following:
Trova: In Italian means 'Find'
Vega : In Many Indian languages means 'Speed' ;
Vega in Spanish means 'Fertile green valley' as well
Trove: In English means 'a store of valuable or delightful things'.
Cantadora in Spanish means keeper and distributor of stories.
Here is a quick glimpse into Cantadora. Cantadora is accessible within Srishti network.

The resource is organized at 3 levels:

Level 1. A simple directory listing (this forms the central resource base)
This is accessible on the following URL : http://192.168.60.4:8040
Level 2. A web-based searchable system that forms layers around the above content which is annotated,
tagged, cross-linked, and indexed, making it user-friendly.
This is accessible on the following URL: http://192.168.60.4:8040/sirb
Level 3. A simple directory listing (Deep content faceted search

Level 1: Directory listing

It is much like browsing folders and their content. Each directory is named after an author, topic, area
etc. This is the quickest way to gather information once you have some prior knowledge of a subject.
For example if you are familiar with
education, epistemology, philosop

structure appears:
Level 2: Web based system
In each directory, you will find Level 1 listings: name of author, subject and topic – which is wrapped
around with annotation tags. When you click on the link pointed to below, the search results will bring

What you see as the very first entry on this home page is the most recent addition to Cantadora. Each
entry, in this specific
On the right side of the image you will find links pointing to text resources and video/audio resources as
the case may be.

The annotation corresponding to each entry is taken primarily from Wikipedia (since it is content rich
and contains most of the key words/tags/ terms) and in some cases from other websites. Each word in
this annotation is searchable from the search interface (please see the red arrow on the top-right of the
image above) – this is what a typical annotation will look like. Please see image given below.
Right below the annotation comes the key words list associated with a specific entry. As in the level 1
Directory listing this web based system too is organized into these Categories: Books, Video, Audio,
Journals and Magazines, Web archives etc (Please see the clickable links pointed on the right top of the
above image). Tags co-relate/integrate multiple entries.

Each entry has a dedicated page with an interface for adding comments/discussion. The text in this area
is also searchable. Discussion threads on a specific entry forms a significant semantic layer. The tag list
comprising other entries are shown right below this (please see the clickable links pointed on the right
bottom of the above image); tags co-relate/integrate multiple entries.

The consolidated list of clickable tags also appears on a separate page reachable on clicking the „Tag
cloud‟ link pointed to on the image below. Random discovery of resources can also be fun.

This is not a complete list of tags since we have over 1400 distinct tags and adding them to the tag cloud
above would cluster them in an unreadable way. Therefore, the entire collection of tags appears
alphabetically listed ( A comprehensive Tag Index ) on a separate page reachable on clicking the link
pointed to on the image on the right.
On the horizontal navigation menu there is another in “Content Index” which lists all the
content and weighted words associated with it. Please see the image below.

“R ” a same set of
key words. This facilitates lateral exploration of content. Please see the image on the right.

There is a provision to stream videos campus-wide. This is useful when specific videos are not
available in the public domain (even when they are accessible, streaming via intranet saves intranet band
width) and the audience is distributed. Please see the image below. It could also be uploaded to the
server via FTP, information on how to do so is given in the Submit Resources section.

Level 3 : Deep Content Indexing and Search

The searches we were able to perform – as described above - were ones in which it was possible to step
through the layers of annotation, tags and key words and comments on each posts. The deep content
search is a feature that enables us to search through the content indexed by an improvised version of
Open source Lucene / Solr algorithm integrated into the customized TroVega Search engine derived
from multiple open source packages.

This search is available through a simple interface. Please see the image below.

The search results appear on a window as shown in the image below. The search results are catagorised
in terms of the Author name, File type and Tags.
There is also an option to submit resources: if you have a collection of resources that you collected and
would like to add it to Cantadora, you can do so by uploading the zipped archive with a text file
containing the key words and annotations. FTP access is enabled and information on how to perform
this action is on the right-hand side of the page below. U “ ”
