Chapter 1 Introduction
Chapter 1
This section describes information which essential for operating Cardico 306.
Introduction
The examination can be carried out with the following four modes using Cardico 306.
The recorded examination results can be saved in the internal memory or USB memory, and can be sent to a personal com-
puter for review with the "Kenz ECG data management software CVS-03" (optional).
z Auto Mode : Record and analyze the ECG at rest and after stress test with simple operations.
z Pre-Check Mode : Cardico 306 monitors the occurrence of arrhythmia. If arrhythmia is detected, recording and analysis
are performed automatically.
z Manual Mode : The printing speed, sensitivity and recording lead are set manually, and the data recorded.
z Long-Term Mode : "Arrhythmia Analysis" and "Autonomic Nervous System Test" can be performed in this mode. Either
test can be recorded and analyzed with the set lead.
With the arrhythmia analysis, the data is recorded with the set lead and then analyzed (ventricular pre-
mature contraction, supraventricular premature contraction, and atrial fibrillation).
With Automatic Nervous System Test, the data is recorded with the set lead, and then analyzed (RR
trend, RR histogram, RR interval measurement value output).
By using the freeze function with the auto mode, the waveforms displayed on the screen can be stopped and con-
firmed before recording and analyzing the data.

Leakage current : Current unintentionally leaks from Cardico 306 and causes AC interference.
Electrostatic induction : Passes through the air to the human body, and causes AC interference.
Magnetic induction : Lines of magnetic force or generated when electricity flows, and causes AC interference.
Caution
z Always use the AC adaptor and AC cable enclosed with the ECG. Using other products could damage the ECG.
z Connect the AC cable to a 3-pin earthed plug to ensure proper grounding.
z Do not connect the grounding cable to the water pipe.
Chapter 2
z Do not connect the grounding cable to the gas pipe, as it is dangerous.
Preparation
• Are any of the cables entangled?
• Is the patient cable too close to the AC adaptor or AC cable?
• Is the pin of the patient cable connected to the corresponding electrode?
• Always charge the battery after purchasing Cardico 306. Due to the features of the battery, it will fully charge to
100% level from the third and following charge.
• When [FUNCTION MENU] - [PRE-SET] - [06. INITIAL RECORDING MODE] - [AUTO POWER OFF] is set to [ON],
the automatic power off function will activate and automatically turn the power OFF if Cardico 306 is not operated for
five minutes.
Danger
z The battery is designed for use in this ECG. Do not use other batteries for this ECG, or use this ECG’s battery
for other products.
z Do not dispose the battery into the fire or heat up the battery.
z Do not dismantle the battery, or modify the battery.
z When the fluid leaks from the battery and enters the eye, clean the eye immediately without rubbing the eye,
then counsel a physician immediately.
Warning
z Do not strike the battery. Do not use the battery that has been struck very hard. This could cause electric shock,
fire, or breakage of the battery pack.
z The battery capacity can become low even if it is not used and kept for a long period of time. Use the ECG at
least once a month to check the battery condition.
z If large quantity of power is consumed in short time or if the battery is used until it runs out, the consumption
and deterioration of the battery is accelerated.
z Since rechargeable battery is a consumable item, its rechargeable capability deteriorates over long hours of
use. In this case, replace the battery with a new one. Consult with Kenz authorized dealer and request for a bat-
tery replacement.
z The battery operation time is affected by the ambient temperature; it may be shortened when the temperature is
low.
z For disposal of the battery, ask a specialized company or Kenz authorized dealer.
7
The following actions will shorten the battery life
• Leaving a charged battery in the ECG, and not using it.
• Using or storing this ECG in a hot automobile, where it may be subject to direct sunlight, or where it is hot.
• Battery life
The battery is a consumable part. The operation time will gradually shorten over use, and at some point use will be
disabled. If the battery level drops immediately after charging, or if the ECG cannot be operated with just the battery,
refer to the precautions for use given in this manual. If the performance does not improve, the battery may be spent.
Consult with Kenz authorized dealer.
• Memory effect
Due to the battery’s features, if the battery is charged before it is completely discharged, a "memory effect" which
decreases the next battery charge level will occur.
If the memory effect occurs and the battery operation time is reduced, restore the battery performance by com-
pletely discharging and charging the battery three to four times. Completely discharge the battery in the following
manner.
1) Set [FUNCTION MENU] - [PRE-SET] - [06. INITIAL RECORDING MODE] - [AUTO POWER OFF] to [OFF].
2) Start the ECG with battery operation, and leave it until the battery is discharged.
If the battery level is not recovered even when the above method is tried, the battery is probably spent. Consult with
Kenz authorized dealer in this case.
Caution
z The battery used in this product can be replaced only by a Kenz authorized dealer. Consult with Kenz autho-
rized dealer and request for a battery replacement.
In case of disposing the device, follow the applicable national rules and regulations of disposal of medical equipment.

EMC Standards
Malfunction due to EMC
Cardico 306 conforms to the safety standards, IEC60601-1-2 (2007). However, if there is any strong electromagnetic wave,
magnetic field, or static electricity exceeding the limits around Cardico 306, noise may be included in the ECG waveform or
Cardico 306 may malfunction.
In this case, take the necessary actions as shown below:
Effect of radiated electromagnetic wave:
The use of a cell phone may cause Cardico 306 to malfunction.
Switch OFF the cell phone in an institution where medical devices are used.
Effect of burst and conducted electromagnetic wave:
High-frequency noise from other equipment may enter Cardico 306 via the power outlet. Identify the noise source. If it is
the equipment that can be stopped, please stop using it. If it is the equipment that cannot be stopped, please use a noise
eliminator or take similar measures to eliminate the noise.
Effect of static electricity:
Electrostatic discharge might cause Cardico 306 to malfunction in a dry room, e.g., during the winter season. Humidify the
room or fully discharge both the operator and patient before using Cardico 306.
Effect of electric current surge (lightning):
If lightning occurs in the neighborhood, excessive voltage may come to Cardico 306. Whenever the situation is consid-
ered dangerous, remove the power cable from the AC outlet.

Recommended separation distance between Cardico 306 and a cell phone or any other mobile RF communication
device
Chapter 10
Cardico 306 is intended for use in the electromagnetic environment where radiated RF disturbance is controlled. When
Cardico 306 is used, electromagnetic disturbance can be prevented by controlling the following recommended maximum dis-
tance between Cardico 306 and a cell phone or any other mobile RF communication device (transmitter):
Appendix
output power of transmitter 150 kHz to 80 MHz 80 MHz to 800 MHz 800 MHz to 2.5 GHz
d = 1.2√P d = 1.2√P d = 2.3√P
100 12 12 23
For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above, the recommended separation dis-
tance d in metres (m) can be estimated using the equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter,
where P is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the transmitter
manufacturer.
• At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the separation distance for the higher frequency range applies.
• These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption
and reflection from structures, objects and people.
