At Lakewood Public Schools, the safety, security and well-being of our students is our Number One priority. We wanted to make you aware of an alleged incident involving a female staff member and male student at Lakewood High School. The District is investigating reports that a staff member, who is not a teacher, allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with a 16-year-old high school student. The incident reportedly occurred off school property and during school hours. Upon learning of the allegations, District officials immediately contacted Michigan State Police and have been assisting them with their criminal investigation. Per Title IX regulations, the staff member was immediately placed on paid administrative leave while the District’s internal investigation and state police investigation continue. All members of the Lakewood community, including students and parents, are encouraged to report any concerns regarding inappropriate behavior between adults and students to an appropriate school administrator. All District employees are required to immediately report any allegations of misconduct involving students to an administrator. I commend our employees for promptly reporting this matter to school administrators per our policies and procedures. Ensuring our students’ safety, security and well-being remains our top priority, and we will keep our school community informed about this investigation.
As always, it is an honor serving as your superintendent.
Sincerely,
Steven C. Skalka Superintendent Lakewood Public Schools
