    Examining IC RF Power Amplifiers

    Procedure:

    1. Use Bing, Google, Yahoo, or another search engine to locate basic information
    sources on integrated circuit power amplifiers for LTE or WCDMA cell phones.

    2. Go to the websites of the following companies to obtain data sheets, block diagrams,
    specifications, and characteristics of RF power amplifiers: Anadigics, Cree, Freescale,
    RFMD, NXP, Skyworks, ST Micro, and TriQuint.

    3. Answer the following questions.

    1. For PAs used for cellphones, what are some of the frequency ranges
    available?

    2. What is the most common input and output impedance?

    3. What is the most common power output specification for a cell phone PA?

    4. What are some of the semiconductor materials used for cell phone PAs?

    5. Are cell phone PAs linear or nonlinear?

    6. What semiconductor materials provide the highest frequency and power


    capability?

    7. Is the Doherty PA available in IC or module format? Who is the supplier, if so?
