IV. FAMILY BACKGROUND (economic status, circumstances of the case, client’s

social functioning):

Jose is an in good health condition. He is a tall man of an average weight with a

black hair and a brown body complexion. He is married and a father of a child. During
the interview, he was observed as neat and tidy. In the initial course of the interview he
displayed uneasiness. However, with the constant reminder of the principle of
confidentiality and the small talk done by the worker, the ice between the client and the
worker was broken and the interview process continued. The client became comfortable
sharing about his personal information and life experiences.

Jose has a loving 29 years old wife, Mary. They are married for ten years
already. The client’s wife is an elementary undergraduate and works as a housekeeper.
Her wife works in their neighbor as a call-in housekeeper. His partner makes P300.00 a
day. However, it is not a stable earning. In addition, their relationship has generated a
good and responsible ten years old son, Rene. He is currently studying as a Grade-4
pupil in Centrala Central Elementary School in Centrala, Surallah, South Cotabato.

Before the client became an individual with a history of substance abuse; he was
a construction worker. He earns P350.00 daily with this particular job. Aside from being
a construction worker, he was a call-in farm worker wherein his neighbors request him
to be one of the corn planters in their corn fields and sometimes request him to be a
person who will fertilize their farm fields. With this sideline, he can earn an additional
P250.00 that helped him provide the needs of his family.

The client expressed that he had first used drugs when he was 28 years old. It
was in 2019 when he was initially associated to drug use because of peer pressure.
Also, he disclosed that he didn’t only use but deal drugs as well. He was the one
requested by his friend to deal drugs to his other friends in exchange of drugs. The
client was triggered to accept the offer since he doesn’t need to buy an expensive illegal
substance anymore, yet by transmitting drugs to his other friends; he can acquire drugs
for free. Additionally, the client conveyed that he was also an alcoholic. With his weekly
income of P2, 500.00, he keeps P500.00 which he would compensate for his vices.
However, he stopped using and dealing illegal drugs in February 2020 and surrendered
in Barangay Centrala to clear his record.

At the age of 29, the client has violated sections 5 and 11of Article II of Republic
Act 9165. On September 25, 2020, he was arrested at Centrala, Surallah, South
Cotabato and he was admitted to South Cotabato Rehabilitation and Detention Center
(SCRDC) in Koronadal City for a total of one (1) year and one (1) month. The trial court
considered the client to benefit the plea bargaining which is in the guidelines set by the
Dangerous Drugs Board for South Cotabato Balay Silangan Reformatory Center
(SCBSRC). On October 18, 2021, he was transferred to SCBSRC for reformation. He
availed the in-house program for six months.

Prior the client’s arrest, he was in the rice mill station together with his friend and
his son. He brought his tricycle with him and carried a sack of Palay which needs to be
pounded so they could have rice to eat for their meal. In the buy-bust operation
conducted by the authority, they waited for the client to finish his undertaking in the
milling station. His friend has gone home before him. He and his son were left and the
authority met him on the road which startled him and his ten (10) years old son.
Additionally, the client’s son trembled and was traumatized because of the incident.
Subdued with self-denial, he disclosed that he never utilized drugs anymore the time he
was captured. However, he was still apprehended because two sachets of
Methamphetamine, amounting to P500.00 each, were discovered from him.

The client has a brother, Apolinario, who helped them in their daily life.
