Dance is a performing art form consisting of purposely-selected sequences of human movements, it is
aesthetic and symbolic value acknowledge by performers and observers within a particular culture. It
can be described according to its choreography, historical period or place of origin.
Dance has special functions like social, ceremonial, competitive, erotic, and martial sacred/ liturgical.

Here are the different classifications of dance.

1. Social dance
2. Ballroom dance
3. Festival dance
4. Ceremonial or Religious dance
5. Occupational dance
6. Courtship dance
7. War dance
8. Interpretative dance

A. ACTIVITY

Let us Do it!

1. In this activity, together we will learn the basic locomotor movements, which is the basic of all
dance forms.
• Jump

2. After learning all the locomotor movements, you need to prepare a video clip showing you
executing some of the locomotor movements

• You need to choose five locomotor movement as your performance piece.


• Each step must take two whole measures with four repetitions.
• You can choose any of the classification of dances be sure to mention the classification of
dance before you execute the step.
• Please refer to the attached rubrics for grading standards

A. Activity: Back to Basic

Before being able to perform Philippine traditional dances, you first need to learn the basics of
dance movements. Like every folk dancer, let us all together learn the fundamental arms and feet
positions of dance.

First Position

Arm - Raised arm to circle in front of the chest

Feet - Bring heels close to touch, toes apart

Second Position

Arm - Both raised sideward with a graceful curve, shoulder level

Feet - Astride sideward about a pace or 1 foot distance

Third Position

Arm - One arm raised sideward as in 2nd position, other arm raised upward

Fourth Position

Arm - Bring the sideward arm to semi-circle in front of the chest

Feet - Bring the front foot forward away from the rear foot

Fifth Position

Arm - Both arms raised overhead

III. KEY CONCEPT:

Tiklos is a native dance of Leyte; it is the bayanihan term in Waray. Group of people work for somebody without
waiting for anything in return. They work odd jobs from clearing forests, digging the earth for wells, transferring a
nipa hut to another location and building a house. Early in the morning, the Leader of the workers beats a drum called
tambura followed by a subling

a bamboo flute and a guimbal-a, a snare drum. The peasants together with their farm tools march together headed by
the bandleader to work in the fields. During break time the peasants enjoy themselves with tuba (native wine) others
dance the tiklos with the instruments. Tiklos is also used to call them back to work.

Waltz is a dance forms in the suburbs of Vienna in the Alpine of Austria as early as the 17 th century waltz were
performed in the ballroom areas of the Hapsburg court. Walzen is German word for dance, which means to turn, or
glide, music is in ¾ time signature.
