increased to 16%, which was half of that of women (32%) after 4 years.
There was a downward trend 4 years later, the proportion of men and women was 24%
and 27% respectively, which means there was a decrease of 4% and 5% in men and woman
figure respectively. In addition, that figure of children was 14% in 2010.

TASK 2
Cycling is more environmentally friendly than other forms of transport.
Why is it not popular in many places? And how to increase its popularity?
In today’s world, there are so many concerns for people to notice. The most controversial
issue that the governments, experts and citizens are making great efforts to tackle is
environmental problem. Changing means of transport is also a solution since cycling is
more environmentally friendly than other forms of transport. However, it is not popular in
many places so I will outline the reasons for this and how to increase cycling’s popularity in
the essay below.
While cycling benefits people from certain aspects of life, this kind of transport is not
widely preferred. There are some underlying reasons for this. Firstly, riding a bicycle to
work or school is inconvenient for people who live far away from office or campus. Those
people have to get prepared at a very soon time as it takes them longer to arrive their
destination. Moreover, they might sweat, which is extremely uncomfortable and messy,
because of continuous movement. Secondly, it may be inefficient to use cycling as a form of
transport in some circumstances. For instance, a bike is able to carry up to 2 people, while a
car can carry more than 4 people. Therefore, whenever people want to go out with their
friends or family, a car is still a favored choice. Finally, in some places, there are not many
roads for bike rider as they are mostly for cars, trucks or walker.
There are several ways to increase cycling’s popularity. Firstly, bicycle distributors should
reduce bike’s cost. As a result, a larger range of people will have approach to this form of
transport, which means that the use of bike for travelling will become more popular.
Secondly, the governments should allocate more budgets to erect more specializing roads
for bike riders, to create the most convenient environment for them to travel.
In conclusion, there are a great deal of reasons for the unpopularity of cycling, however,
everything has solutions.
