MICRO LESSON PLAN FOR ENGLISH 7

Time Allowance: 2 hours
Objectives: Within the given session, the students are expected to:
a. Understand the layout in making clerihew
b. Create their own clerihew
c. Appreciate the beauty of poetry and its uniqueness.

Activity Have you read a poem before?


What is the difference between writing an essay to writing a poem?
Have you ever think of writing a poem?

Poem looks like very complex, rhyming should be considered, the number of lines and etc.
But there’re still poem that is simple and very fun. I’m talking about Clerihew.

Now, I want you to look for a partner in doing the activity.


A topic will be given and as a partner you will work in creating your own clerihew through
sharing ideas and giving feedback to one another. You will write something about your
chosen topic, it doesn’t have to be perfectly made as long as has it has 4 lines and really
talked about the topic. Please observe the rhyming, the first and the second lines rhyme
with each other and the third and fourth line rhyme with each other.

Yes, it all started with Mr. Edmund Clerihew Bently.

In CLERIHEW, the first line is the name of the poem's subject, usually a famous person
put in an absurd light, or revealing something unknown or spurious about them. The
rhyme scheme is AABB, and the rhymes are often forced. Clerihew is a type of poet that is
characteristically concise and cleverly amusing.

How to Write a Clerihew:

 They are four lines long.


 The first and second lines rhyme with each other, and the third and fourth lines
rhyme with each other.
 The first line names a person, and the second line ends with something that
rhymes with the name of the person.
 A clerihew should be funny.

What you will get from studying and constructing Clerihew are you will get experience
working with rhymes in just four lines and as well as translating your own life experiences
and ideas into a poem with fun. In addition, you can learn the fine art of writing a poem.

Application
Since you are already knowledgeable about Clerihew, I want you to construct your own
Clerihew using your own chosen topic (2 clerihew). Follow all the tips and instruction in
making clerihew and make sure your topic is very close to your heart to make it very
meaningful to you.

Assessment
In a ½ sheet of paper, write an essay about your understanding and thoughts about
Clerihew, expecting that your essay will serve as one of the reference to all future readers
who wants to know more about clerihew. Entitled your essay with “WHAT IS
CLERIHEW”.
Assignment
As preparation for our next topic. I want you to search the types of Figurative Language.
(Assuming that the next topic is about using figurative Language in constructing a poem.)
