Countables Uncountables
They have plural form They don’t have plural form

Example: pencils You can’t say: sugars , milks, meats. That’s incorrect!

You can use numbers They don’t use numbers

Example: two pencils You can’t say: two sugar. But you can say “One
jar of sugar”
You can use A/AN with them They don’t use A/AN

Example: a pencil You can’t say: a sugar


you use: How many...Y You use: How much…
Example: How many pencils...? Example: How much sugar...?

Countables & Uncountables


LITTLE: Express a diminutive size or negative quantity .
Little means “almost nothing” or “not too much”

I’m sorry, I speak a little french. / There was little time to


finish my work / The kitchen is little

FEW: Represents a negative quantity shortage . It is used


with plural countable nouns. It means NOT MANY, NOT
ENOUGH.

FEW+ COUNTABLE NOUNS

I have got few friends in the city so I’m lonely


He has few photos on instagram

A LITTLE: It’s used with positive quantity and uncountable


nouns. It means “a small amount” or “some”

There is a little milk in the fridge / Would you like a little


water? / Can’t you discount it a little?
A FEW: Represents a positive quantity . It’s used with plural nouns. It means some, a small amount

A FEW+ COUNTABLE NOUNS

He has a few good friends so he is happy

There are a few books in the shelf

We stayed a few days in Paris and visited the Eiffel tower
