Description and Quick Set Up
Description
The Anaconda is a bi-direc-
tional 64 channel point to
point synchronous audio
transport system. The system
is comprised of two identical
boxes on either end of a high
speed multimode fiber snake.
Each unit has 8 ADAT inputs
and outputs, LAN interface,
an internal crystal generated
word clock, an external word
clock input, and 8 word clock
outputs, power and two high
speed fiber transceivers (SC or
ST connectors).
Installation
The Anaconda was designed
to be mounted on the rear rails
of a rack so that interfacing
to all other equipment is easy
and convenient. Use appropri-
ate cushioned rack screws. It
does not generate heat, but it
is recommended to put one space
between units. Do not place on
next to any source of excessive
heat or heavy transformer hum
fields.

Power
The Anaconda is powered via a
standard IEC connector. The switch
mode supply can handle voltages
between 80 and 280VAC at either
50 or 60Hz. Use only a power cord
that carries safety approvals in your
location.
There are two power supplies in
each Anaconda. If one supply fails
the secondary supply automati-
cally takes over. The indicator on
the front panel is green when the
main supply is functional and is red
when the redundant supply has
taken over.Precotatecd
Master/Slave
Select one unit to be the Master
and the second to be the Slave.
If you are using an external
word clock source, select the
unit that is closer to the source
of that external word clock as
Master. If you are using the
internal clock source either unit
can be set as Master.
Word Clock Source Select
On the Master unit select inter-
nal or external word clock. The
Slave unit will derive its clock
from the Master. There is a
switch above the word clock
input for 75Q termination. If
there is no external terminator,
switch to ‘On’ Note: The exter-
nal clock must be a stable and
accurate clock at 48kHz (within
+/-5Hz).
Word Clock Outputs
Connect the word clock outputs
of the Anaconda to the indi-
vidual clock inputs of the ADAT
sources. The source impedance
of each output is 750 and the
Use proper termination tech-
niques to ensure clean transmis-
sion of the word clock.
Note: If an ADAT source is not
synched to the same clock as the
Anaconda, the system will not
work.
ADAT Inputs
Connect the ADAT outputs from
the individual sources to the
ADAT inputs of the Anaconda.
enoADAT Outputs
Connect the ADAT outputs of the
Anaconda to the ADAT inputs of
whatever is receiving the signals.
Note: There is no need to con-
nect word clock to those inputs.
High Speed Fiber
Connect the high speed fiber
to both ends of the Anaconda.
There are two transceivers- Main
and Redundant. If you are using
just one fiber run, connect to the
Main. If you are using two fiber
runs, connect the secondary run
to the Redundant. Make sure
that the fiber from the transmit-
ter of one Anaconda is connect-
ed to the receiver on the other
and vice versa. When the system
is working properly both the TX
and the RX LEDs will light for
each connected transceiver.
LAN Connections
At the control end of the snake,
connect CATS cables from a
router to the LAN connector on
the Anaconda and the LAN con-
nector on the 1788AR-C hard-
ware remote, PC and or MAC.
Note: Certain PC’s may have a
firewall that will have to be dis-
abled.
At the other end of the
Anaconda connect a CATS cable
from the LAN connector to a
switch or a hub. Connect CATS
cables from the switch or hub
to all the 1788As. If there is
only one 1788A a ‘turnaround’
cable can be used between the
Anaconda and the 1788A with-
out a switch or hub.
Power the router before pow-
ering up the remote and the
1788As.
