POINTS

A point in geometry is a location. It has no size i.e. no width, no length and no depth. A point is
shown by a dot.

LINE
A line is defined as a line of points that extends infinitely in two directions. It has one dimension,
length. Points that are on the same line are called collinear points.

A line is defined by two points and is written as shown below with an arrowhead.

COORDINATES

Coordinates are a set of values which helps to show the exact position of a point in
the coordinate plane.

LINE SEGMENT
A line segment is a part of a line that is bounded by two distinct end points, and contains
every point on the line that is between its endpoints.
GRADIENT
In mathematics, the gradient is the measure of the steepness of a straight line

When the graph is from left to right it has a negative gradient or slope

When the graph is from right to left it has a positive gradient/slope

MID-POINT

The midpoint is the middle point of a line segment. It is equidistant from both endpoints, and
it is the centroid both of the segment and of the endpoints.

LENGTH OF A LINE SEGMENT

The length of a line segment is the distance between its endpoints. So, a line segment is a
piece or part of a line having two endpoints. Unlike a line, a line segment has a
definite length.

EQUATION OF A STRAIGHT LINE

The equation of a line is typically written as y=mx+b OR y=mx + c where m is the slope
and b or c is the y-intercept.

The x-intercept is the point at which the graph crosses the x-axis. At this point, the y-
coordinate is zero. The y-intercept is the point at which the graph crosses the y-axis. At
this point, the x-coordinate is zero. To determine the x-intercept, we set y equal to zero
and solve for x.
