and Politics

ANALYSIS
Based on the given self-assessment activity, how does position and power in the
organization affects the organizational relationship such as employee-employer, employee-
employee, and superior-subordinate relationships.

The position and power in the organization affects by their responsibility and duties, like Japanese work

culture that always respect the seniors and look to their superiors for approval before making big

decisions because it is their culture to respect and obey their seniors at work. The duties of the seniors

and in position are to guide and teach the subordinates because it is their duty. That’s how the position

and power works and affect the organizational relationship.

Is an organizational power a right or a privilege? Why? Cite illustrations.

It is a privilege because it is a duty to perform with others, when you say right it sounds that like you own

a company share or corporate stock, in organization power it is a privilege that granted by the top

management or the founder of the organization, granted that they will assume that you can perform with

great expectation.

APPLICATION

1. On your own point of view, in your family how power is used?


In our home the word power used in my family is equal in a way that there is no high nor low about the

authority and occupation we have .We both used it equally on expressing our though and to share our

opinion through listening each other then resolved it together. A family who not impartial other member

of the family who is wrong or right.

2. Compare and contrast power, authority, and leadership.


Power can be defined as the probability that one actor within a social relationship will be in position to

carry his own decision despite of resistance, while authority represents the right to obtain compliance by

others due to the level of power inculcated by the individual and position. Leadership is the leader who

leads and motivate the others towards achieving a common goal and objective.

Power is a person’s ability to control activities of other individuals. Leadership is the ability to inspire

people to follow your instructions voluntarily and manage the completion of a project without exercising

any form of force, Authority is when a person has the right to give you an order or direction.

3. Why is it important that the exercise of power and politics be handled in an ethical
fashion? What might happen if employees felt that managers were using power in an
unethical fashion?
Possibly abusing power can harm the employee’s freedom and rights if the power is over use or used in

unethical ways. It is important to use the power that given to perform the duties right to avoid abusing of

power.
