SWOT ANALYSIS

Topic 1: VIRTUE ETHICS

Virtue is a moral excellence. A virtue is a trait or quality that is deemed to be morally good and thus is
valued as a foundation of principle and good moral being. Personal virtues are characteristics valued as
promoting collective and individual greatness. In other words, it is a behavior that shows high moral
standards. Doing what is right and avoiding what is wrong. Virtue ethics are normative ethical theories
which emphasize virtues of mind, character and sense of honesty.

If you want to behave virtuously, become a virtuous person. Certain traits for instance, honesty,
compassion, generosity, courage seem to be universally admired. These strengths of character
are virtues. To acquire these virtues, follow the example of persons who possess them.
Although Virtue ethics strives at making the individual a better person and instilling virtuous
qualities in him/her, it does not really help when encountering an ethical dilemma, as there are
not any guidelines on what to do as Normative Ethics suggests. Moral reasoning, arguably,
could be what is 'supposed' to help overcome ethical conflicts, but what if one's reasoning is
flawed or immoral? Therefore, I think the disadvantages outweigh the advantages
Virtue ethics mainly deals with the honesty and morality of a person. It states that practicing
good habits such as honesty, generosity makes a moral and virtuous person. It guides a person
without specific rules for resolving the ethical complexity.

Virtue ethics is a broad term for theories that emphasize the role of character and virtue in moral
philosophy rather than either doing one’s duty or acting in order to bring about good
consequences. A virtue ethicist is likely to give you this kind of moral advice: “Act as a virtuous
person would act in your situation.”.

Virtue ethics is a system of ethics the emphasizes on virtues or on the moral character of the
people. This means that it is based on what the people had done if the person has done bad
things, then he has bad moral character.

Supposing that a person needs help, then someone that practices virtue ethics will eventually
help him or her, he would help him or her because the person helping is doing charity or
benevolence.

De-ontological ethics is a system of ethics that judges the morality (if it is good action or if it is a
bad action) of an action if the action is based on some rules or duties. So de-ontological do their
actions according to a rule or duty. It is an ethic based on external rules but virtue ethics is
based on internal character.

Virtue ethics focuses on character of a person, and how that will influence one's action, De-
ontological is rule based like (stealing is wrong)
