CHAPTER 1
1.0 ABSRACT
An assignment was given to me to make a report about building services proposal. The report
must discuss about 5 types of buildings system included Fire Fighting System, Electrical
System, Mechanical System, Gas System and Telecommunication System. I required to draw
at least one sketch for every system that I choose for the building. The objectives of the report
are to gain more knowledge about building system while help us to more understand about
this topic. It also helps me to expend comprehension about what I study in class about the
latest system that used in a building. Last but not least, by making this report, it helps me to
develop my report writing skill that can use while in job atmosphere.

CHAPTER 2
2.1 FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM
2.1.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter will discuss about the fire fighting system in a building. The type of the system
that used in hospital will be explain with its function, advantages, disadvantages and reason
why we use the system in a hospital.

2.1.2 WHAT IS FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM?

The fire fighting system is divided into two, which is passive and active. The passive systems
are generally built-in to the structure of the building to make sure that it can withstand the fire
during its life cycle period. This system will be able to prevent fire and smoke from moving
to another compartment. It also will be able to delay the collapse of the building structure and
the growth of the fire. The active systems are widely used in process industries for protection
to extinguish, control the fire or provide exposure protection to prevent domino effects. The
process of protecting a building or structure from fire by moving parts be automatic or
operated manually.

2.1.3 PASSIVE FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM

Passive fire system is the important part of the fire fighting system in a building because its
needed to contain and slow down the spread of fire with proven fire performance properties
built as the building structure to provide resistance upon fire. Passive systems are used to
control the growth of fire through material control or by providing a physical barrier to the
movement of fire or smoke. Often mixed in walls, floors, ceilings, beams and shaft
constructed according to the specified fire resistance assessment. This system is intended to
provide the structural integrity of floor, wall and ceiling assemblies during a fire for a
specified time period. Besides that, it also compartmentalizes the fire room or space to
control the fire spread and also provide the exiting system for occupants to evacuate the
building safely.
