ACTIVITY

1. Prepare a bolt and nut and by means of it perform initial setting of idle and final adjustment. Submit
by means of short video via messenger.

2. Describe how to perform initial and final adjustment of idle mixture and how to adjust the idle speed
of the engine rpm.

Adjusting the idle mixture and the idle speed speed of the engine RPM is very essential for the efficiency
of the engine. It is quite tricky and difficult but here are the procedures in performing the adjustments.

Adjusting the idle mixture:

 With the limited app for still plug remove turn the idle mixture screw in until slightly touch scot
then back it out to full turns

 Adjust the idle speed, needle out two turns for more air/fuel and need out one turn for less
air/fuel.Connect an exhaust gas analyzer at exhaust system with the engine idling at normal
operating temperature.

 Adjust idle mixture to get a satisfactory idle at the specified rpm. The CO reading must be below
the specified allowable minimum engine CO requirement base on manufacturer’s specifications.
The engine should be running at normal idle. Note in the absence of the exhaust gas analyzer
after the initial adjustment of the mixture adjusting screw of two turns backward.
 Warm up the engine then turn the air/fuel mixture adjusting screw counterclockwise the rpm
increases then stop.

 Mark the position then turn clockwise until rpm decreases then stop, and mark the position,
then divide the distance equally then try to accelerate the engine if it picks up it is okay. If not
turn the screw a little to counterclockwise increasing to a little rich mixture.

 Return air cleaner and other hoses.

Adjusting the idle speed of the engine RPM:

 A typical procedure will start with disconnecting the evaporative range hose from the charcoal
canister

 Disconnect and plug the vacuum hose to the ignition distributor, and the vacuum hose to the
EGR valve Exhaust Gas Re-circulator valve.

 Adjust the ignition timing at the specified engine speed. Disconnect the electrical lead to the idle
solenoid (if used). Reconnect the hose to the distributor

 Adjust the idle speed to specifications. Before screw in throttle linkage, later model in the
solenoid.

 Reconnect the lead to the idle solenoid. Then extend the solenoid plunger and adjust engine
speed to specifications.
