The purpose of this study is to discover teachers' perceptions, challenges and readiness on online teaching and learning through the HBL approach during the Covid-19 pandemic. A total of 3 teachers in different school which is two in Sabah and one in Labuan were selected as key informants for this study. Qualitative data were collected through an interview based on 3 main open-ended questions about perceptions, challenges and readiness towards online teaching and learning among teachers. This study using qualitative method because it’s generally used for understanding views and perceptions. Its offers visions to different problems and helps in creating concepts or theories for potential quantitative research. It is also helping to discover new thoughts and individual views. This method uses many kinds of unstructured or semi-structured practices for data collection such as in this study, forum online. As in this study, semi structured method used. Qualitative techniques give unique depth of understanding which is difficult to gain from a closed question survey. Furthermore, key informants are able to freely elaborate on their answers and also reveal their experiences, thoughts and feelings without constraint. Qualitative methods propose a dynamic approach to research, where the researcher has an opportunity to follow up on answers given by respondents in real time, generating valuable conversation around a subject – something possible with a structured survey. The collection data tool was interviewed online with three key informants which is teachers from different school which is two teachers in Sabah and one teacher in Labuan. The online interview was led about an hour for each session. The interviewed was recorded, transcribed and analysed by codes and themes.
