A BRIEF ABOUT WINDOWS 10-OPERATING SYSTEM
Abstract—Windows 10 is a latest operating system
from Microsoft corporations and it is running on
it latest build i.e. 1709(10.0.16299.125). It have
Cortana, windows store, Xbox-one, start menu,
searching tools. In windows 10 problem of search
engine and security problems are still because
there is no alternate of internet explorer and no
anti-virus for users. But still it comes with lots of
new features as compared to previous versions of
windows so many new features are there in it. It
came to both windows 7&8.1 genuine users and
it’s a free upgrade up to two years and then users
have to buy a license for it. Initially, it was
released on 29th of July 2015 as a free upgrade to
existing users and came along with various
features as we discussed in this paper. But several
issues were there related to it which we discussed
in this paper.

I. INTRODUCTION
It is an integrating set of program that acts as an
intermediary between the user and hardware of the
computer system [1]. It controls the execution of all
kinds of program. An application programs usually
require an operating system to perform functions. For
hardware functions such as input &output and
memory allocation, an operating system acts as an
intermediary between programs and computer
hardware in which we have to perform it. Since an
operating system is in charge of computer, all
requests to use its resources and devices need to go
through the O.S. and for execution of programs and
application we requires. Every device needs o.s. for
execution of programs like in pcs and laptops
windows dominates and in smart phones android
dominates. So without O.S. our hardware is just like
an electronic device and we cannot perform any task
or run an application or program without it.
Operating systems can be found on almost every
device either it is pc or smart phones or devices that
contain a computer from cellular phones or video
game consoles to supercomputers and web servers.
Simply, it is system software which transforms a raw
piece of hardware i.e. CPU, motherboard and
memory into a virtual machine which is more easily
used and letters managed then the underlined
machine.

Microsoft introduced/launched an operating
environment system named Windows on November
20, 1985 as a graphical operating system shell for
MS-DOS. The most common and widely used
versions of Windows for personal computers, mobile
devices and smart phones, server computers and
embedded devices are respectively windows 7,
Windows 8, Windows phone 8.1 with denim update,
Windows Server 2012 and Windows Embedded 8
Industry. And in this report my main focus will be on
Windows 10 which is yet to be launched in markets
and it is most awaited Operating Systems. Microsoft
corporations launched various versions of windows
like windows ,Vista , windows 7 home basic ,
premium , students ,ultimate, windows 8&8.1 and
now the much awaited WINDOWS 10 which may be
the last from Microsoft .It is regarded that windows 7
ultimate is most successful windows of Microsoft till
date. Technical previews and insiders of windows 10
are already in markets and there are about beta 10
versions of windows 10 insiders.
II. Components of O.S. [2]
Components all together make an operating system to
do work. Different components exist together which
makes an operating system to execute programs and
applications. Each and every user software needs to
go through an operating system in order to use any of
the hardware because it is an intermediary between
user and hardware, whether it as simple as a mouse or
keyboard or touchpad or it is as complex as Internet
components of computer system. Likewise previous
versions of windows, WINDOWS10 also have same
components like kernel, networking, security and a
user interface. User interface of windows 10 is best
one and its start menu comes with the combination of
windows7 and 8.
A. KERNEL [3]
A kernel connects the application software to the
hardware of a computer system and it is the main
component of O.S. Kernel connects application
software with our computers hardware and controls
our hardware devices.
B. NETWORKING
Currently all operating systems support a variety of
networking protocols, hardware, and applications for
using them. This means that we can use common
network for sharing resources such as computing,
files, printers, and scanners using either wired or
wireless connections.
C. SECURITY
A PC being secure relies on upon various innovations
working legitimately. A present day working
framework gives access to various assets, which are
accessible to programming running on the
framework, and to outer gadgets like systems by
means of the part. The working framework must be
fit for recognizing solicitations which ought to be
permitted to be prepared, and others which ought not
to be handled. While a few frameworks might just
recognize "advantaged" and "non-special",
frameworks ordinarily have a type of requester
character, for example, a client name. Security is
important component of an operating system.
D. USER INTERFACE
User interface of computer system is an essential
component as it provides the way to user to use
applications. User interface may vary from one o.s. to
other and it windows o.s. is attractive, user friendly
and very easy to use because it provides the
instructions to users to use o.s. and its applications.
III. GOALS OF AN OPERATING SYSTEM:
The primary goal of O.S. is to make the computer
system convenient to use and the secondary goal of
O.S. is to use the computer hardware in a systematic
manner [4]. For communicating with computer
hardware user needs an operating system, it performs
activities in systematic manner and it make it able
user to easily communicate with computer system. So
for make computer system convenient to use we need
an operating system. Windows 10 comes with latest
features which will unify pcs and its more users
friendly as it comes with a voice assistant Cortana in
several languages and a windows store comes with
millions of apps.

So, its primary goal is to provide convenience to
users and they make users easy to compute. And
secondary goal of an operating system to provide it in
efficient and it should be available to all users

IV. WINDOWS Vs OTHER OPERATING SYSTEM
There are many operating systems like Windows,
Linux, IOS, Android, Ubuntu, Mac, Blackberry etc.
but most widely used operating system is windows.
Why it is, because it is user friendly and wide range
of programs in it. MICROSOFT recently launched
WINDOWS 10; it is latest and comes with wide
variety of features. And window has share of approx.
90% in market and it dominates over other operating
systems.
There are many O.S. but windows are widely used,
there are billions of users of windows. Microsoft
launched many windows like windows v1, v2, v2.1,
v3, v3.1, windows NT4, 5&6. Generally, windows
merge the old Windows 3.1, 95&98 series of
Windows with the NT series. It was also the first
version of Windows to support the full capabilities of
64bit processors in a special Windows i.e. XP
Professional 64bit edition. Which unlike the 32bit
version of Windows XP the old Windows 3.1,95,98
series of Windows with the NT series? Windows is
different from other O.S.in many ways like its more
users friendly as compared to others. Its processing
speed is fast as it utilizes the hardware of computer
system more and amount of RAM it requires is very
less. It provides path to user and gives regular
instructions to use and interact with computer. It’s
running and processing speed is fast as compared to
windows8.
CONNECTIVITY [5] is topic to be discussed
because last Friday Microsoft announced that now
windows 10 users can share their WI-FI with each
other. Windows 10 introduces a new default web
browser, Microsoft Edge. It features a new standards
compliant rendering engine forked from Trident,
annotation tools, and offers integration with other
Microsoft platforms present within Windows
10.DirectX aims to provide "console level efficiency"
with "closer to the metal" access to hardware
resources, and reduced CPU and graphics driver
overhead. Security system is simple and easy as the
enterprise version of Windows 10; administrators can
set up policies for the automatic encryption of
sensitive data, selectively block applications from
accessing encrypted data, or even outright require all
software to be signed with a Microsoft key.
V. WINDOWS 7 VS WINDOWS 10
Following is the comparison between windows 7 and
windows 10. It is on the basis of their user interface,
gaming performance, cost, graphics performance,
their power management, security, start screen, task
manager etc.
1. User interface: User interface of windows 7 and
windows 10 is completely different. As windows 10
comes with live tiles and apps which were not in
windows 7. Windows 10 has a very decent look as
compared to windows 7 it have apps on start screen
and it’s a combination of both windows 7&8.1.
Windows 10 will also support ARM processor both
Intel as well as AMD while windows 7 do not
support ARM processor.
2. Start Screen: Windows 10 start screen is
combination of both windows 7&8.1. Live apps and
tiles concept comes from windows 8 and all features
and programs while pressing start button comes from
windows 7.
3. Cost: windows 10 upgrade sill is free for genuine
users of windows 7 and 8.1 and to updated windows.
Notification of registering already comes to users can
install it; it is 3GB up gradation.
4. Gaming performance: Windows 10 comes with
latest Directx12 and Xbox-one which featured with
millions of games which are free for users and
directx12 support heavy games so gaming is best on
windows 10. While in windows 7 user cannot play
games like asphalt 8, hill climbing racing etc. which
are in windows store only, so this is a peculiarity of
windows7.
5. Security: There is security boot loader in windows
10 and boot level scanner which will provide user
from hacking. So in terms of security windows 10 is
more secure as it is very difficult for hackers to hack.
Due to boot level malware it will save windows from
booting. It also comes with picture password which is
very easy to use and implement. So a window 10 is
much more secure in terms of security.
6. One drive: Windows 10 comes with one drive
spacing 15GB by which we can upload our useful
documents or pictures safely. When user is connected
to internet then One Drive will automatically upload
documents and pictures.
7. Power management : In terms of battery backup
and power both windows 7&10 are same but backup
of windows 10 is little bit more then windows 7
because windows 10 comes with latest power saving
METRO app model. It will run on the top of the
application architecture i.e. windows RT.
8. Graphics performance: 3D graphics performance
of both o.s. is nearly same and it is measured by 3D
mark but windows 7 leads in terms of 3D graphics.
9. Windows store: It comes with large variety of apps
in it so it is the strong part of windows 20 because in
windows 7 we cannot play such games, live tile,
weather report, news etc. So it changes the computer
age because in pcs user can use applications like that
in smart phones so this feature of windows 10 make
it far better than windows 7.
10. Multimedia: Multimedia system in windows 10 is
best as compared to windows 10 because it comes
with pre-installed music app, video app, media player
with better quality of videos and with high processing
and running speed. It is nearly 10% faster than
windows 7.
VI. FEATURES OF WINDOWS 10:
Windows consists of billions of features like it
contains windows store with millions of free apps,
Cortana in 100 languages which is voice assistant,
Xbox &Xbox-one for playing games, Internet
Explorer for browsing, windows media player for
playing videos, firewall, windows defender etc. AND
RECENTLY MICROSOFT accounted that windows
10 can use ANDROID and IOS which is restored.
There are several apps for gaming and multimedia in
windows store.
CORTANA [7]
IT IS A VOICE ASSISTANT AND IT IS
AVAILABLE IN VARIOUS LANGUAGES.
Cortana is helpful is setting of alarm and reminders,
it will show maps and weather conditions and it will
understand and recognize voice of an user , and
according to Bing information it will answer the
questions accordingly like current weather, sports ,
and biographies of famous personality. Users can
also wear Microsoft band assisted with Cortana
through which user can get the report of everything
he wants.
So it will provide great source of help and it will save
time of user as well.
XBOX AND XBOX-ONE [8]
It is designed for gaming as we can play games like
crisis 4, asphalt 8 very easily in pcs, smart phones as
well as in tablets. It contains all games and for Xbox
Microsoft provides windows 10 with DirectX12
through which gaming became easier and cheap.
With introduction of windows 10 users will not pay
in costly hardware’s of computer system and games
will run more freely. User can login with their
existing Microsoft account for playing games in
Xbox and all games in it are free.
There's also a new set of controls on the top left of
the window that duplicates the old Windows 8 touch
controls and charms and user can run simultaneous
four windows. They're very small on a high
resolution screen and don't work at all well with
touch. It provides with wide variety of apps like
social networking apps, multimedia and gaming apps,
devotional apps etc. so windows store is backbone of
windows 10 as user can run millions of apps for free.
Windows 10 is a latest and upcoming operating
system which is developed by the Microsoft
corporations as a part of the Windows NT family of
Operating systems. First presented in April 2014 at
The Build Conference by CEO SATYA NADELA as
it will be the first project of Satya Nadella as a part of
Microsoft Corporation, it released in mid2015 that is
July 29th.
VII. HOW IT WORKS –
Its processing speed is more as compared to previous
windows versions and its multimedia and gaming is
very good because it contains pre-installed apps like
music, video, camera by which it is convenient for
users to use it. Battery duration is more as compared
to windows 8.1 because it comes with latest power
saving sources.

The most obvious change in Windows 10 is the
return of the Start Menu. It's a mix of the Windows 8
Live Tiles with the familiar Windows 7style menu,
one right next to the other. The Start Menu is back, in
a hybrid of the familiar Windows 7 Start Menu (jump
lists and all) and the Windows 8 Start Screen,
complete with Live Tiles. Working with the new
Start Menu is easy enough: To launch it, all I had to
do was click on the Windows logo in the corner of
the desktop. Like the Windows 7 Start menu, it has a
list of apps and support for jumping apps. Working
with the new Start Menu is easy enough: To launch

hierarchical list of apps and support for Jump Lists
(which, oddly, fly out and replace the Live Tile
section of the Start Menu).
VIII. ADVANTAGES OF WINDOWS 10
1. Millions of apps in windows store.
2. Xbox and Xbox-one in which we can play
major games like asphalt8 airborne,
fifa2015etc.without hanging.
3. Windows phone moves freely without hanging
because it requires few amount of memory
during installation.
4. User interface is very attractive and start screen
is combination of windows7&8.1.
5. Cortana which is voice assistant comes with
windows10.
6. Major advantage is that it is free UPGRADE to
both windows 7 & 8.1 users so everyone can
use it.
7. Overhauled apps in windows store.
8. Summing up and it comes with nearly 200
languages.
9. Its battery wake up is more as compared to
other versions.
10. Multimedia and gaming comes free like
preinstalled app of music, video etc.
11. We can paste in command prompt which will
make users easy to use cmd.
12. Instead of two windows in windows 8, in
windows 10 we can open four simultaneous
windows and can do several works at a same
time.
13. Windows 10 is more secure than windows
previous versions as it detects malwares easily.
There is security boot loader in windows 10 and
boot level scanner which will provide user from
hacking. So in terms of security windows 10 is
more secure as it is very difficult for hackers to
hack. Power management and battery life is
very good in it and it saves large amount of
energy by which battery wake-up increases.
IX. DISADVANTAGES/PROBLEMS WHICH ARE
STILL IN IT ARE-
1. Still there are many apps in windows store
which are paidandeveryone cannot buy them
which makes something that it is only for rich.
2. It is free upgrade only to genuine users of
windows 7&8.1.
3. No alternate for INTERNETEXPLORER [10].
4. Cortana a voice assistant is not for all countries
and not for all pcs, it is for specified nations and
countries.
5. I think Microsoft should provide users at least
two years for free antivirus because this is the
problem from past and mostly O.S. either
corrupted or have poor performance because of
viruses and malwares. So it should be
mandatory that Microsoft provides users free
antivirus to reduce damage of windows as well
as hardware of computer system.
X. METHODS TO RESOLVE THESE PROBLEMS
ARE–
1. It should be free to all users and everyone
should install windows10 because it is new and
opportunity of using it should be provided to
everyone.
2. Apps in store should be free so that more and
more people can install it.
3. I think it should be free upgrade to pirate’s as
well as users who are using insiders of it.
4. Replacement of internet explorer with some fast
search engine should be there as they can give
search engines like Google chrome or Firefox
instead of IE.
5. Microsoft should provide free anti-virus for at
least two years for protection of windows from
viruses and thefts. It will increase lifetime of
o.s. as well as of computer hardware.
 XI. MY CONCLUSION

In conclusion I tell about all key points in short and

make summary of whole project on the topic
windows 10 – an operating system. So basically
Windows 10 is android and Mac in smart phones,
its user interface, start menu, multimedia and
gaming all are decent.
According to me windows 10 is the best one from
Microsoft and will change the way of users. It has
all possible features for computers as well as for
smart phones. It have Cortana, windows store,
Xbox-one, start menu, searching tools. In windows
10 problem of search engine and security problems
are still because there is no alternate of internet
explorer and no anti-virus for users. But still it
comes with lots of new features as compared to
previous versions of windows so many new
features are there in it. It came to both windows
7&8.1 genuine users and it’s a free upgrade up to
two years and then users have to buy a license for
it.
