C INSTRUCTIONS

CAUTION
Before performing any work, be sure to refer to and follow all recommended safety precautions
set out in the applicable Crown Service and Parts Manual. In addition, Crown recommends that all
mechanics wear appropriate protective items, such as safety glasses, work gloves, and steel-toed
shoes, whenever performing work on Crown equipment.

MULTI-SERIES TRUCK DOWNLOAD TOOL OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS


(For FC 4500, PC 4500, PE 4500, PR 4500, RC 5500, RR/RD 5700, RR/RD 5700S,
RM/RMD 6000, SC 4500, SC 5200, SP 3500 and TSP 6000 Series Trucks)

Tools Required: CAN Download Kit 062915-00S (Includes


CAN Peak Dongle and Cable), General Hand Tools, Com-
puter (lap top) With Windows® XP or Vista Operating Sys-
tem, RS232 Adapter Cable 126456 (Required for TSP 2
6000 trucks), Service and Parts Manual 1
Estimated Installation Time: 0.5 to 1.0 Hour (depending on
model)

CAUTION
• Computer must be connected to AC power.
• Computer must have an open USB port.
• Screen saver and sleep mode must be disabled.

NOTE
The six pin connector on adapter cable 062888 supplied in
kit 062915-00S, should have four male pins in locations: 1,
2, 4 and 6. Refer to Figure 21524-02.

Some revisions of this cable do not have pins in positions
4 and 6. If this is the case, then the wires in positions 4 and
3
6 of the truck harness connector will need to be removed
from the connector and jumpered together.
Adapter cables can be updated to the current revision by Figure 21524-02
crimping contact pin 062704-003 to each end of a 76.0 mm

(3.0 in) piece of #18 AWG wire. Insert jumper between pin

positions 4 and 6.

1. Move the truck to a service area on a level floor.


2. Lower the forks completely and turn the truck OFF.
3. Chock drive wheels and disconnect the battery. Refer
to Control of Hazardous Energy-Lockout/Tagout sec-
tion of the Crown Service and Parts Manual as
needed.

For PE 4500 trucks, record the number ("Original SW")
from the label located on ACCESS 3 (Traction Control
Module). Refer to Figure 21635.
2 For SC 4500 trucks, use Utilities Menu U1.1.2 to get soft-
ware number for ACCESS 1. If this number is less than
122728-001-06 (using the last number extension on the
right), then this Download Tool can not be used - contact
Figure 21653 Crown Customer Service.

For TSP 6000 trucks, the PCAN Module 062914 must be
separated from the Service Download Cable 062888. The
PCAN Module (1), or a serial extension cable connected to
the PCAN Module, must be connected to the RS232 con-
nector (2) on the Power Unit Distribution Panel (3). Refer
to Figure 26805.

7. Select the truck model from the drop down box (next
to Truck Model). For PE 4500 trucks, select file
PE4500Tcm69Y05501Cxx if the previously recorded
number from the "Original SW" field on the ACCESS 3
label is 69Y05501Cxx. Select file
PE4500Tcm69Y05502Cxx if the previously recorded
number from the "Original SW" field on the ACCESS 3
label is 69Y05502Cxx or 69A21340Cxx. Refer to Fig-
ure 21635.

8. Connect the battery.
9. Turn truck ON when requested. The download tool de-
tects all modules that are present in the truck.

NOTE
If a module is present, but not detected, the download
should NOT be continued. Select the Cancel button and
correct module issue(s) in the truck configuration.
10. Verify all modules that are physically present on the
truck are detected. Some trucks may not have all
available modules installed depending on truck op-
tions.
11. Select the OK button to begin the download, or select
the Cancel button to stop the current download. If you
selected OK, then the status of various modules will
change as software is downloaded.

CAUTION
Do NOT turn truck OFF at this time.
12. Follow Steps 13 through 16 to download software to
additional truck, or select the Exit button to close the
download tool, then proceed to Step 17.

NOTE
When changing between truck models it may be neces-
sary to close and reopen the download tool.

Perform the following Steps 13 through 16 for addi-


tional truck downloads:
13. Turn truck OFF after completing the software down-
load to current truck.
14. Disconnect the PCAN USB dongle cable from the cur-
rent truck and connect to the next truck.
15. Select the Restart button.
16. Follow Steps 7 through 12.
17. Turn truck OFF after completing the software down-
load.
18. Disconnect PCAN USB dongle from the truck.
19. Install previously removed covers and close doors.
20. Remove wheel chocks.
21. Turn truck ON, verify menu settings, perform truck cal-
ibration as needed and verify operation.
Retain these instructions for future reference.
