Curriculum Development for Children

Children are generally known to explore their environment more and figuring things out.

Cognitive skills develop at a young age; therefore, this is considered the most delicate stage of a

child's development. At this stage, a child needs many activities focusing on developing

affective, cognitive, and psychomotor skills. Choosing a curriculum activity may prove to be

complicated. Therefore, to develop appropriate curriculum activities, it is essential to pay

attention to how children interact with their environment, what they like, and what they don't.

Try not to force an activity on children, but it is advised to introduce an action they are not

interested in to boost their cognitive skills.

For curriculum planning, precise assessments of the intended outcomes are necessary.

For children's case, it is crucial to have a broad category of curriculum development that is more

open-minded and focuses on learning development over a period of time. Activities that can be

used in curriculum development in children include:

1. Modelling letters using clay

This is an easy and enjoyable activity that children should find interesting (GreatSchools

Staff, 2012). It facilitates the coordination of the hand. It improves the ability of a child to learn

and improves hand-eye coordination. Basically, this is a simple way of training handwriting at a

young age.

2. Creating a name and picture booklet.

Children can be taught basic computer knowledge by creating a name image booklet.

Children can be taught how to match names against pictures of objects or photographs against

characters using word programs. This will improve both the affective and cognitive levels of

their learning.

3. Simple arithmetic

Introducing simple arithmetic at a young age in the curriculum improves the children's

ability to develop an interest in mathematics; for example, children can be counting pennies,

nickels, and dimes in the groupings, fives, and tens. They can find this both interesting and

educative improving their cognitive domains.

4. Music and games

Children are known to be very active. Muscular development and bone formation are

most active at this stage. Therefore, it is essential to subject children to various activities

involving dancing and sport-like activities like football to improve their psychomotor skills
