Film Review
(Deepwater Horizon)

I.INTRODUCTION

Deepwater Horizon is a dramatic disaster film based on a true event about the
2010 British Petroleum (BP) offshore exploration rig that caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico,
depicting the incredible events that happened after the largest oil leak in American history.

The movie features employees on an offshore oil rig until they run into problems
with a freshly drilled well, which culminates to a catastrophe that destroys the rig and
injures or kills numerous crew members. This uplifting film is about a real-life hero from
this catastrophe, as well as prayer and heavenly assistance in the face of adversity. It's
all about unselfish and ego service to coworkers. Deepwater Horizon has been published
in 2016, and it is based on David Barstow, David Rohde, and Stephanie Saul's article
"Deepwater Horizon's Final Hours," which first appeared in The New York Times on
December 2010. Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, John Malkovich, and Kate Hudson are
among the film's formidable cast members. And director Peter Berg does a terrific job of
capturing the intensity and turbulence of the scenario.

II.SUMMARY

An oil rig platform dubbed Deepwater Horizon is located in the Gulf of Mexico, and
its explosion caused the greatest oil catastrophe in American history. The most
astonishing acts of courage and survival in the face of one of the world's worst man-made
catastrophes are depicted in this video.
Mike Williams, the main electronics specialist on the Deepwater Horizon, has
returned to the rig for another month of labor. For the past six weeks, the current rig work
has been delayed. As a result, the BP executive is under pressure to complete the
operation as quickly as possible, because in this sector, time equals money. Despite the
fact that the rig had a variety of systems and apparatus that needed to be fixed, as well
as an ominous negative pressure test result in the drilling pipe, the executives insisted
that the task be completed. Waiting for Harrell to confirm the results before continuing
with the drilling procedure despite the risks.

The expected tranquil night for everyone working on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig
turned into their worst nightmare. In the aftermath of BP's hasty and imprudent move,
Mike William and his coworkers had to battle to stay alive. The immediate repercussions
of the disaster include 11 deaths, 17 injuries, and life-changing experiences for the
survivors.

III.ANALYSIS

Deepwater Horizon begins with genuine documented recordings of court hearings

from Mike Williams' testimony, addressing the true life aftermath of the circumstances
that produced the film. Soon later, images of breaches appeared on the Deepwater
Horizon oil rig's floor sea, signaling the onset of a huge disaster.

April 20, 2010. Deepwater Horizon is an offshore oil rig with 126 crew members
that is afloat in the Gulf of Mexico 41 miles south-east of the Louisiana coast. Deepwater
Horizon, a Transocean-operated offshore oil rig, is about to begin drilling for BP deep off
the southern coast of Louisiana. Chief Electronics Technician Michael "Mike" Williams
(Mark Wahlberg) and Offshore Installation Manager James "Mr. Jimmy" Harrell (Kurt
Russell) are genuinely shocked when BP managers Donald Vidrine and Robert Kaluza
order the employees to leave early without being able to undertake a pressure test. While
Mike organizes and arranges the drilling team, Harrell approaches Vidrine and urges him
to do a negative pressure test, which will further damage the porous cement.

The pipe test was performed on the drill pipe, which resulted in a pressure of 1395.
The BP Supervisor then has them do another test, this time with 0 psi at the kill line, and
the results are substantially better. The crew then starts pumping the mud from the
pipeline. The pipe fills with a large amount of muck, causing it to burst and the blowback
to knock the employees off their feet. The experts have managed to keep the muck from
overflowing. The earth, however, shakes, and a new torrent of muck emerges from the
breach a few seconds later. Methane gasses rise and build pressure until the pipe can no
longer handle it, culminating in a tremendous explosion that sets the rig ablaze. Dewey
Revette, Stephen Curtis, Jason Anderson (Ethan Suplee), and Donald Clark are killed
when the oil erupts owing to a series of mechanical difficulties and a failed attempt to plug
the well. Andrea Fleytas (Gina Rodriguez), the Deepwater Horizon's navigational officer,
tries to alert the Coast Guard, but her superior, Captain Curt Kuchta, dismisses her since
the rig isn't in immediate danger. A terrified, oil-covered pelican flies into the deck of a
nearby vessel, causing it to speed up its approach to the rig, just as the crew begins to
flee.

Mike recovers Harrell, who seems to be alive and breathing notwithstanding being
badly injured in the blast. After so, they discover that the rig is beyond repair. Mike's
colleague, Dale Burkeen, sacrifices his life to prevent a fire crane from crashing on the
remaining workers while Mike and Caleb saved Vidrine and Kaluza and got them out
safely. As darkness comes and the oil burning illuminates the scene, the Coast Guard is
informed, and a ship is dispatched to save the crew survivors who have been transported
to the Damon Bankston in rescue boats. Victims and survivors are granted medical care.
Mike is crowded by media from outside of the hotel, and a furious man slams him against
a wall, asking if his son got out rig alive. Mike hurries up to his room and passes out while
showering. Felicia and Sydney go into the room and hugged each other. Mike gives her
daughter with the tooth. After seeing Andrea and Caleb reunite with their families, Mike
and his family leave, as Jimmy arrives.
The film concludes with a series of video illustrating the disaster's aftermath,
including real-life Mike Williams' words and the news that neither Transocean nor BP
workers were punished for their actions. Images of the 11 men who were lost are exhibited
just before the movie ends.

This historic oil spill had been a disaster especially to environmental life. The
Deepwater Horizon oil disaster's ramifications are still being felt in the natural system. It
was stated and proven in 2018 that the Deepwater Horizon persists to spill to this very
day will continue to do so for the next decade.

IV.CONCLUSION

This incident has come to be a reminder of our high level of passion and duty for
our career, our decisions, and persons we connect with. In this film, we discover leaders
lacking moral attributes such as selflessness and regard for others, bringing the problem
of management neglect to a head. Between their aspiration and personal integrity, a war
rages, with the former presiding.

Deepwater Horizon is worthy watching not just for the magnificent cinematography
that attract more people feel as if everything is occurring to him, but also because of the
vast range of concerns covered, which might teach everyone else a value. Oil platform
workers are never at fault for their circumstances. It is a tragedy for business leaders to
believe that their employees' health and lives are less important than the big profit that
will be earned if the project is done as soon.

Through the film Deepwater Horizon, it is relevant to our society as it illustrates

exactly how and what could happen when people neglect everything for their own self. A
mere mistake may have a significant influence on the performance, as well as the welfare
of workers, the firm, and loss profit. A single technological or human error may impede
and disrupt the whole process in this business.
