INSTRUCTION PROCESS
⮚ You are supposed to select a learner from the class whom you have observed. Choose a
learner, son/daughter of your friend or relative.
⮚ Conduct a home visit to your selected learner.
THE LEARNER
1. Make a general observation of the learner. Describe him in each of the domains of
development:
● Physical-body built and height (thin, chubby, underweight, overweight), level of
physical activity (fast, slow, lethargic, active, etc.)
● Social-interaction with teachers and classmates (loner, shy, sociable, friendly, gets into
fights, liked by others, etc.)

enthusiasm, excited, indifferent, etc.)
● Cognitive (appears to understand lessons, copes with the lessons, excels, lags
behind, shows reasoning skills, turns in assignments and requirements, etc.)
INTERVIEW WITH PARENTS
1. Conduct a home visit. Once there, observe the home set-up. (Home is orderly, family pictures
in the living room.
2. Use the Interview Questions on the next page. Just ask the questions with which you
feel comfortable.
SUGGESTED PARENT INTERVIEW GUIDE
Your teacher may ask you to use a more detailed interview guide. Be free to translate the questions,
if necessary.
started to talk.

are these rules?

How do you monitor his/her performance in school? How do you motivate him/her?
- I asked her teacher about her behaviour, about her performance. I motivate her through
supporting her.
Do you have rules at home to help him develop good study habits? What are these rules? How are they
implemented?
Task No. 1.
After you have gathered all the necessary data, write the Learner’s profile using the outline below.
Type the profile in a separate sheet and attach it to this learning episode.
School
MANGUIAO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Family Profile
Number of Siblings: 2
Birth Order: ELDEST
Parent Mother: MARIALYN L. AWIT
Age: 33 YEARS OLD
Occupation: HOUSEWIFE Educational Attainment: ELEMENTARY

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
(In paragraph form, describe the physical development of the learner. Combine the parents’
responses and your own observations.)
The physical development of the child is normal to her age. Since during pregnancy, her
mother only has a toothache. There is nothing serious with her as a child since she only
has a fever.
SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT
(In paragraph form, describe the social development of the learner. Combine the parents’ responses
and your own observations.)
She socially developed because at her age she loves to go out and play with her friends and
cousins. She was mature at her age. And I observed when I interviewed her mother I saw how she
cared for her sister.
EMOTIONAL-MORAL DEVELOPMENT
(In paragraph form, describe the emotional-moral development of the learner. Combine the parents’
responses and your own observations.)
As I observed her emotions were okay. Even her parents are not on good terms but still she is
a good child. She never gets affected by her family background. I observed that she is a brave
girl. And she knows to follow rules.
COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT
(In paragraph form, describe the cognitive development of the learner. Combine the parents’
responses and your own observations.)
Watching preschool children’s thinking skills develop as they encounter new people, places, and
ideas is exciting. Keep in mind that individual differences exist when it comes to the specific age
at which children meet these milestones and that each child is unique. As I observed her cognitive
development, she is not good in Filipino. But she’s good in Science, English and mathematics. She
is also interested in drawing.
FINDINGS
(Write here your salient findings about the learner.)
My findings about my interview with the mother and the child, I can say that the child was being
cared for by her mother even though she is a single mother. The mother was very responsible for
her daughter. She never gets tired of taking care and loving her. She is very supportive and the
result is that her daughter is an honor student. I can also see the determination of her daughter
to finish study. The love and support by her mother was able to build a good physical, social,
emotional-moral and cognitive development.
CONCLUSIONS
(Write your conclusions after you have analyzed the impact of the school and the home on the learner’s
development. The questions in the YOUR ANALYSIS portion of this learning episode can help you.)
I conclude that, in every development milestone of a child is coming from the parents on how
they were going to raise their children. The way of discipline on their children affects his/her
development. The family background may affect the child's development but it's up to you on
how you are going to handle it. We must support their wants as long as it helps here to
As a parent, one of your jobs is to teach your child to behave. It's a job
that takes time and patience. But, it helps to learn the effective and healthy
discipline strategies. To the parents, try to praise more than you criticise. As
a guide, try to praise your child five times for every one time you say
something negative. Praise your child for their strengths and encourage your
child to feel excited about their own interests. This will help your child
develop a sense of pride and self-confidence.
Task No. 2
⮚ Your findings and recommendations in the Learner Development Profile
will help you answer the questions here.
1. From your home visit and interview, what do you think is the style of
parenting experienced by the learner? Explain your answer?
2. Relating your data with what you learned from child development, what
family factors do you think contribute in the development and overall
adjustment of the learner in school?
