The Cordillera
The Cordillera Central is a massive mountain range situated in the northern central part of the island of Luzon, in the Philippines.
Several provinces bound it, namely Benguet, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Baguio, a chartered city located
entirely within Benguet.
The tribal groups inhabiting the place are the Kalingas, Aetas, Ifugaos, Tirurays, Bagobos, Ibalos, and Tinguians. They
appreciate the beauty of nature and create varied form of artistic expressions through songs, dances, and art forms. Their songs have
generally limited tones. The vocal style they use varies according to their day-to-day activities.
The Ibaloi’s, Badiw, is a ceremonial song for the dead. It is sung in a leader-chorus style. While the epic song of the Kalinga is
