1. Gemba Kaizen - Is an action oriented approach and refers to improvement activities that are
carried out in the actual workplace, like on the shop floor or on the manufacturing line.
2. Suggestion Systems - Encourage employees to submit suggestions for improving work
processes and customer satisfaction.
3. Innovation -Involves a drastic improvement in the existing process and requires large
investments and big efforts
4. Breakdown Maintenance - Means that people waits until equipment fails and repairs it.
5. Delivery - Refers to bringing the necessary quantity of products in the right place at the right
time.
6. Preventive Maintenance - Is a daily maintenance like cleaning, inspection, oiling and re-
tightening that is designed to retain the healthy condition of equipment and prevent
failure.
7. Staff Suggestion System - Is a formalized mechanism which encourages employees to
contribute constructive ideas for improving the organization in which they work.
8. Quality -Is usually customer defined and referred to as the perceived characteristics and
features of a product.
9. Total Quality Control - Means organized Kaizen activities involving everyone in a company.
10. Periodic Maintenance - Is time based maintenance consists of periodically inspecting servicing
and cleaning equipment and replacing parts to prevent sudden failure and process problems.
11. Total Productive Maintenance - Is a system of maintaining and improving the integrity of
production and quality systems through the machines, equipment, processes and
employees that add business value to the organization.
12. Data - The lifeblood of Kaizen
13. Customer - The next process according to the last concept of Kaizen.
14. Small Group Activity - A method of problem solving in teams by structurally searching
for the root causes and eliminating them.
15. Standard - The best, safest and easiest way, to achieve and maintain a defined quality level.
16. Change - The meaning of “kai” which is one of the two characters of the word “Kaizen”.
17. Good - The meaning of “zen” which is one of the two characters of the word “Kaizen”.
18. Toyota - Has been known as the initial company that has started kaizen.
19. Teian Kaizen - A type of Kaizen that represent a theory-based approach and refers to
strategic improvements.
20. JIT Production System - Ensures that the firm can maintain the minimum required number of
stock everyday, which saves a lot of inventory costs and can meet customer’s delivery needS.
