Opening:

You guys might have known about volleyball. But have you ever heard of bossaball? No, not baseball but
BOSSABALL. No? Well, it may sound foreign to you as it's not that popular. But it's actually a real sport
that is played by many people. Now let us tell you the background of this sport.

Background:

Bossaball originated in Spain and was conceptualized by a Belgian living in Spain named Filip Eyckmans
in 2004, but the development and popularity of this sport is down to the Dutchman Wilco Nijland, an ex-
professional volleyball player. Bossaball is an outdoor dynamic sport played between two teams,
combining elements of volleyball, football and gymnastics with music into a sport. Uniquely it is played
on an inflatable court with trampolines on each side of the net. This allows the players to soar high
enough to hurl the ball over the net and score straight points. The word bossa is often translated into
Portuguese as ‘style’, ‘glamour’ or ‘attitude’ and it is most commonly known when used in the
term bossanova, which is a genre of Brazilian music. As a matter of fact, music plays an important role in
bossaball. This is why there is a samba playing band and ‘samba referee’ which is the name of the
person who oversees the match is called as, not only make referee calls, they also take on an
entertainer-like role, thus the whistle is also used to maintain the samba rhythm. The Bossaball court
size is not determined, but they are usually around 50 yards long by 30 yards wide. Numerous bossaball
tournaments already occur in countries such as Holland, Chile, Romania, Kuwait, Turkey, Ecuador,
France, Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic.

Rule:

The aim of bossaball is for each team is to ground the ball on the opponent's field. There are two
opposing teams which comprises of 4 to 6 players in each group, and for safety reasons, only 1 person is
allowed in the trampoline section on each side of the court. Each team is allowed up to 5 touches (in a
rally) before sending the ball over to their opponents. Players can use any parts of their body, hands,
head, or feet – to touch the ball. When the attacking shot lands on the inflatable areas of the opponent’s
court, 1 or 3 points is awarded to the scoring team if the scoring touch was executed using the hand or
other body parts respectively. When the attacking shot lands on the trampoline section of the
opponent’s court, 3 or 5 points is awarded to the scoring team if the scoring touch was executed using
the hand or other body parts respectively. The game goes back and forth until one team grounds the
ball on the opposing team’s side. The first team to score 25 points wins. The ball can be played with two
techniques:

1. Touch Volleyball: play the ball once with the hand or forearm
2. Touch Soccer: double touch is allowed (counts as 1 touch).

Know the rhythm and timing and good technical skills to use the trampoline and perform acrobatic
moves. Good bouncing and jumping skills are required, as well as good foot and head control.
Strength:

In bossaball,

We can be more creative in scoring. In Bossaball we are free to use our hand or feet which make this
bossaball game more fun and relaxing than other games.

As this is a team sport, you also can practice good cooperation and to make tactics to win between your
teammates and make a tight bond with them.

But, you need more stamina to play this sport as you’re always going to jump on the trampoline inthe
whole game

And in every sports injury are bound to happen, bossaball is no exception. There are 4 main mechanisms
of bosaball injury:

(1) contact trauma (Including being hit by a ball and collision with another player, (3) fall (4) overuse,
majority of injuries occurred from being hit by the ball, overuse during training for competition, deals
with players another, fell, slipped or tripped. Based on the location of the injury, More than half of the
total injuries are related to the lower extremities, especially ankle sprains and knee, fractures especially
the tibia, fibula and nasal bones.

Because it is an outdoor sport that's mainly played on the beach, there are chances the ball may hit the
spectators or any people near. The ability to throw a service ball, kick a serve, pass, to smash sometimes
are not consistent with each other

Conclusion:

Bossaball may seem weird, but it's actually a great and fun sport that you should try if you have the
chance. So-called bossaball court can be set up anywhere where there is enough space, for example, on
a tennis court, a beach, a field or even inside a sports centre.
