OBJECTIVE:
To become familiar with the working of trainer board and Integrated Circuits
To become familiar with the operation of Basic Gates, AND, OR, NOT using ICs.
To become familiar how to determine the truth tables for logic gates
EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE:
THEORY:
INTRODUCTION TO DEV 2766 TRAINER:
DEV-2766 carries all essential elements of circuit patching, no separate equipment is required.
The trainer board consists of many elements but the detailed description of only those
elements is given that are used mostly in logic design experiments.
1
Two –position Selector Switches to select a L→H or H→L momentary pulse
Soft Keys: A L→H or H→L momentary pulse becomes available when one of these keys is pressed.
Pulse Out: The momentary pulse can be extended from these sockets any input on the trainer.
-12V: -12V±10% DC fixed are available in this socket.
GND: Socket to take Ground out
+5V: Socket for +5V±10% DC fixed out.
+12V: Socket for +12V±10% DC fixed out
-5V: Socket for -5V±10% DC fixed out
Ext Capacitor: Capacitor can be added in this socket to change the frequency of Ext Clock Out.
Fix Clock Out: A fix clock output is available in this socket.

Digital Inputs: Eight sockets for output of the Logic Switches and providing logic input. When a
TTL high in provided at this Digital Input Socket, corresponding status LED glows.
Status LEDs: H/L indicators of digital inputs
Logic Switches: logic switches for providing TTL logic level high (5V) and low (0V) at the
corresponding output point of the sockets.
Digital Outputs: Eight sockets for output of the Logic Switches and providing logic input. When
a TTL high in provided at this Digital Input Socket, corresponding status LED glows.
Status LEDs: Eight LEDs for indicating presence of TTL high logic.
Graphical LCD Display: 128 x 64 dots graphic LCD. Digital Block input/output is displayed on
LCD.
ADD ON MODULES:
This is the most basic module that accompanies most of the trainer boards. RIMS trainer still
includes a relay, potentiometer and all supply points.
A standard breadboard generally consists of rows and columns of connections (female) for
patching electronic circuits. All connections in a larger column are shorted i.e. if the pin of an IC
4
is inserted in any one connection of a column; the pin is in fact connected to all other
connections of that column.
Please note that the module housing points are also power points. Insert the module slowly and
ensure it is properly locked
CAUTION!
INTEGRATED CIRCUITS:
An integrated circuit (IC) is a group of components which may include resistors, low value
capacitors and transistors printed on a silicon chip. The individual components of the I.C make
up a commonly used circuit. The circuits can range from simple voltage regulators to audio
chips for a head unit to a microprocessor for a computer. The chip is packaged in a plastic
holder with pins spaced on a 0.1" (2.54mm) grid which will fit the holes on breadboards. Very
fine wires inside the package link the chip to the pins.
PIN NUMBERS:
The pins are numbered anti-clockwise around the IC (chip) starting near the notch or dot. The
diagram shows the numbering for 14-pin ICs, but the principle is the same for all sizes.
Sometimes the chip manufacturer may denote the first pin by a small indented circle above the
first pin of the chip. Remember that you must connect power to the chips to get them to work.

DATASHEETS:
Datasheets are available for most ICs giving detailed information about their ratings and
functions. In some cases example circuits are shown.
The figure below shows the internal (gate level) implementation in ICs.
