TOPIC: REVIEW (UNIT 2)
TEXTBOOK: FCE GOLD PLUS
TIME: 45 minutes
TEACHING AIDS: handouts, blackboard, and notebook.
AIMS: -to review the use of negative prefixes with adjectives and verbs
-to focus on the correct use of articles
-to practice the language of comparison
-to rephrase sentences
ASSUMPTION: Ss are able to use articles, make comparisons and use negative prefixes with adjectives
and verbs;
ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: Ss may have difficulties in rephrasing the sentences

ACTIVITY 1:
Warming up and checking homework;
Teacher greets the Ss and then she checks homework
(The teacher asks the students to put the homework on the desk)
INTERACTION : T-Ss, Ss-T
TIME : 2 minutes

ACTIVITY 2:
AIM: to revise the language of comparison;
PROCEDURE: Ss are given a handout with grammar exercises for revision. First they have an exercise
where they have to find the mistake in the exercise and rewrite the correct sentence. The
sentences are concerning the language of comparison. Ss work in pairs. Ss correct the
mistakes with the teacher and write the correct answer on the board and on their handouts.
INTERACTION: S-S, T-Ss
TIME: 10 minutes

ACTIVITY 3:
AIM: to consolidate the use of negative prefixes with adjectives and verbs, focusing on word formation;
PROCEDURE: Ss also work in pairs and complete the sentences with a negative prefix. The next exercise
on the handout is one where they have to complete a prefix in front of a word to give it a
negative meaning. Ss are reminded that it may not be enough to just add a prefix.
Sometimes, the tense of the word may also need to change or a suffix may also need to be
added. The exercise is checked orally with the whole class.

TIME: 7 minutes

ACTIVITY 4:
AIM: to focus on the correct use of articles
PROCEDURE: Next students have an exercise concerning the use of the articles. They have to complete
the gaps with a definite article, indefinite articles or no article at all (marked by a dash).
INTERACTION: T-Ss, Ss-T
TIME: 5 minutes
ACTIVITY 5:
AIM: to introduce and practice a multiple choice exercise and to revise the comparisons;
PROCEDURE: Next exercises is a multiple choice exercise concerning the language of comparisons
where the students have to choose the correct answer. Their answers are checked orally.
INTERACTION: S-S, T-Ss
TIME: 5 minutes

ACTIVITY 6:
AIM: to practice the use of adjectives ending in “-ed” and “-ing”;
PROCEDURE: The students have next an exercise regarding the adjectives ending in “-ed” and “-ing”
where they have to underline the correct adjective. Ss work the exercise on their handouts
individual then the exercise is checked orally.
INTERACTION: individual work,STT
TIME: 7 minutes

ACTIVITY 7:
AIM: to rephrase sentences;
PROCEDURE: The last exercise on the handout concerns the rephrasing of some sentences, keeping the
similar meaning and not using more than five words, including the word given.
INTERACTION: SST
TIME: 7 minutes

ACTIVITY 8:
AIM: - to evaluate Ss’ work
-to assign Ss homework
TIME: 2 minutes
PROCEDURE: T grades some Ss and encourages the others. Ss are assigned to write a paragraph about a
sport that they would like to be good at, giving arguments. If the last exercise on the
handout is not finished during the class, Ss will have to do it as homework for the next
time.
