STUDIES
Six sessions this week will assess postal consolidations
WHAT:The Postal Service will host six information-sharing sessions this week to share
the decision-making process for each site where consolidation is being considered.

WHEN AND WHERE:In the Postal Service’s Albany District, information sessions will be
conducted in:

Albany

• Pine Station (12209) and Delaware Station (12208): Elks Lodge, 25 South Allen on
November 4, beginning at 4 p.m.
• Patroon Station: American Legion Post, 1610 35 N. First Street (12204) on
November 5, beginning at 3 p.m.
Schenectady

• Scotia Station: Scotia/Glenville Middle School, 10 Prestige Parkway, Scotia (12302)

on November 5, beginning at 6 p.m.
Syracuse

• Elmwood Station: Elmwood Elementary School 1728 South Avenue (13207) on

November 6, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
• North Syracuse Station: North Syracuse Public Library, 100 Trolley Barn Lane
(13212) on November 6, beginning at 11 a.m.
WHY: Local sessions will continue a review process begun earlier this summer that
examined approximately 3,600 stations and branches in urban and suburban areas
across the country, focusing on facilities in relatively close proximity to one another, to
determine where consolidations might be feasible while maintaining customer access to
postal services. Currently, 371 stations and branches remain under consideration for
possible consolidation.

Comments collected at these sessions will be tabulated as part of the public record and
advanced for the final reviews of these sites at Postal Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
To date, no facility-specific final decisions have been made as a result of this initiative.
Sessions are open to the public. Written comments will also be accepted for an
additional 10 business days after each session and may be directed to

additional 56,000 locations such as supermarkets, drug stores, and other retailers sell
postage and selected postal services. Nearly 18,000 ATMs also dispense sheets of
stamps.
The Postal Service's Albany District reaches more than 3.5 million postal customers
served by 718 Post Offices in an area that stretches from the Massachusetts and
Canadian borders west to Waterloo and south to Binghamton and the Southern Tier.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits
every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations
and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax
dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s
mail.
