3.0 SYNOPSIS & THEORY

Voltage Node Analysis

The node equations of currents are written to satisfy Kirchhoff’s current law. By
solving the node equations, we can calculate the unknown node voltages. A node is a
common connection for two or more components. Selecting a reference node is also
important. Referenced node must be firstly selected. In principle any node can be
picked as reference node. However, the solution is usually facilitated by selecting one
end of a voltage source as the reference node. Next, label the voltages at each of the
other nodes. In node-voltage analysis, we write equations and eventually solve for the
node voltages. Once node voltages have been found, it is relatively easy to find current,
voltage, and power for each element in the circuit.
