PEDAGOGICAL ADJUSTMENTS IN MAPEH TOWARD CAPACITATING

SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS' INNOVATIONS IN PERFORMANCE-BASED

MODULAR LEARNING MATERIALS PREPARATION AND ASSESSMENT

Chapter 3

Methodology

This section articulates methodologies, including the population, sampling

technique, respondents’ description, instrument, data-gathering procedure, and

statistical treatment to be utilized in this study.

Research locale

The study was conducted in the Division of Quezon specifically public High

Schools in the third district of Quezon which is highly affected by the COVID-19

pandemic and majority of the schools are implementing modular distance learning as

their mode of delivery in the new normal in education.

Respondents

The respondents of the study are the MAPEH major’s teacher who teach in the

third district of Quezon and was included in the Roster of MAPEH Major in the Division

of Quezon (not yet identified po ang exact number).

the study was chosen purposively since the study was primarily focused on

Developing teacher’s capability program in instructional innovation for performance-

based modular learning materials preparation and assessment by identifying and


analyzing pedagogical and instructional adjustment made by the respondents during the

pilot implementation of distance learning our country.

Research design

In order to determine the pedagogical skills and instructional adjustment of the

respondents and develop teacher’s capability program in instructional innovation for

performance-based modular learning materials preparation and assessment, the

researcher finds the necessity of a qualitative and quantitative-descriptive study. Abarca

(2014) describes the design of research as a blueprint or guideline. It helps in carrying

out the study in such a way that maximum control will be done over the aspects that

could affect the efficacy of the research outcome.

Data are gathered through a validated questionnaire via google forms and

traditional method with two main part. The first one includes the pedagogical skills and

instructional adjustment of the respondents and the second one is the instructional

innovation performed by the respondents on the first year of implementation of the

distance learning in education.

INSTRUMENTATION

The researcher utilized survey type questionnaire to gather information about

pedagogical skills and instructional adjustment of the respondents in their field of

specialization. The questionnaire is used as the main data gathering instrument in this

study. The questionnaire includes the profile of the respondents and the survey proper.

The profile consists of the socio demographic profile of the respondents such as name,
age, gender, name of school, years in service and highest educational attainment. The

survey proper includes the pedagogical skills and instructional adjustment of the

respondents and the instructional innovation made by the respondents in the pilot

implementation of the distance learning in education. Some portion of the questionnaire

was adapted by the researcher from the study of Eduardo Carag entitled Pedagogical

Approaches Used By Teachers In Teaching MAPEH In The Division Of Tuguegarao

City, Philippines. the questionnaire of this study is submitted to his adviser for

comments and suggestions on the content and structure. after the first validation from

his adviser, the researcher will now seek for guidance from the veterans in the field for

further comments and suggestions on the questionnaire. To ensure the safety of both

the researcher and respondents, the researcher used google forms in gathering data

and only used traditional paper and pencil for the school who are not reached by mobile

data.

Data Gathering Procedure

The research instrument will first be submitted to the thesis adviser for approval

and forwarded to the five experts for validation. Upon approval and validation, a letter of

request addressed in the division of question is sent for the approval and confirmation

that the study will be done on the different schools in the division of Quezon. A letter

from the division will be used by the researcher as a permit and will be given to all
school heads. To ensure the participation of the respondents, the School Head will be

the one who will give the questionnaire to the respondents.

Statistical treatment
