Things to do BEFORE a volcanic eruption:

 Charge your electronics. Keep your mobile devices plugged in case of power
interruptions.
 Be updated. Stay tuned to national news and local channels to be informed
about safety and evacuation plans. Make sure that you get information from
reliable sources and not from the fake ones.
 Evacuate immediately. Locals will inform the citizens if there is a need to
evacuate. If you live or stay within the radius of the affected area and is told to
evacuate, please do immediately.
 Prepare and emergency kit. This should contain the following:
o Dust mask for each person
o Copies of personal documents
o Phone and powerbank
o Flashlights and extra batteries or candles and matches
o Drinking water
o 3-days worth of non-perishable goods
o Hygiene and sanitation products
o First aid kit
o Extra cash
 Save the disaster and emergency hotlines.

Things to do DURING a volcanic eruption:


If you are indoors:
 Stay at home. Close doors and windows to prevent fine particles from entering.
Listen to local news to be updated.
 Turn off fans and air conditioning.
 Bring pets in closed shelters. This will prevent them from inhaling volcanic ash.
 Cover food and water. This will prevent your food and water to be contaminated
with ash.
If you are outdoors:
 Use dust mask. To prevent yourself from having pulmo-respiratory injuries, wear
dust mask.
 Protect your skin and eyes. Wear proper clothing and goggles that can cover
your skin and eyes.
 Try to find a shelter indoors.
 Stay out of restricted zone. The effects of the eruption can be experienced
even miles away from the volcano.
 Avoid low-lying areas. Ash and other volcanic particles will be carried by wind
and gravity.
 If you are driving, pull over and stop.

Things to do AFTER a volcanic eruption:


 Do not leave your home. It is dangerous to go outside because of the ash fall
and other particles from the volcano. Stay indoors until notified by the local
government.
 Wear protection. Use masks, goggles, long sleeves, and pants to protect your
lungs, eyes, and skin.
 If evacuated, return only when the local government says so.
 Listen to local news. Keep updated for information and instructions.
