CIS 4402: IT Governance and Evaluation

Contact Hours: 45 hours


Prerequisites: CIS 4401 Information Systems Audit
Purpose: This course helps students prepare for industry certification in the Control Objectives
for Information and Related Technology (COBIT) framework which defines a set of generic
processes for the management of IT.

Expected Learning Outcomes


At the end of this course the student should be able to:
i. Explain how IT Governance fits within wider corporate governance guidelines, and why
it is important to the organization.
ii. Justify and apply the steps in achieving better alignment between IT and organizational
goals.
iii. Evaluate what is required to achieve a shared understanding of how IT is governed
amongst all stakeholders.
iv. Apply elements of various IT Governance approaches in an organizational context.

Course Content
The principles of IT Governance. IT Governance and IT management issues. Responsibility for
IT Governance. Approaches to IT Governance. COBIT Framework. IT Governance Frameworks.
Corporate Governance of IT. IT Balanced Scorecard. Frameworks, standards and best practices.
Evaluating IT Governance. Applying IT Governance approaches.
