4. The Mesosaurus fossils tell us that South America, Africa, and Antarctica were once connected because
it is impossible for these reptiles to swim over the vast oceans and move from one continent to another.
5. I think North America, Europe, and North Asia were once neighbors because they made up the Laurasia.
APPLICATION
1. You would be able to see similarly structured rocks on the previously connected land masses because
the same geologic and environment forces would have acted on these land areas before.
2. Due to the movement of plate tectonics, it is possible that a continent’s location may move in 100 years.
3. If the continents will continue moving, with Philippines in Asia, the continent will merge with Australia
as it (Australia) migrates north.

APPLICATION
1. The Atlantic Ocean will widen by 30 kilometers within the span of a million years.
2. It is due to process of subduction.
3. Abundant evidence supports the major.
4. No, the earth is not getting any larger and wider when plates drift away from each other. As they mine,
they will possibly encounter other plates.
1. The Atlantic Ocean is expanding due to formation of new crust at the mid-Atlantic ridge and westward
motion of the North American Plate.
2. The seafloor spreading and other tectonic activity processes are the result of mantle convection. Mantle
convection is the slow, churning motion of earth’s mantle. Convection currents carry heat from the
lower mantle and core to the lithosphere.

ANALYSIS
1. The Glossopteris fossils reflects the evidence of separation of continents like South Africa, Australia,
India, and Antarctica that were largely separated by huge and wide ocean which was earlier
connected with each other.
2. The climate of Antarctica before Glossopteris were found was Tropical, occurred when the South’s
found glossopteris grew in wet and cold climate conditions, and North’s in warm conditions.
