Assignment on My Career Planning and Personality Development

Introduction
I am Nasratul Ferdous. At present I am the student of Bangladesh and Liberation War Studies
department at Noakhali Science and Technology University. I have completed my SSC from
Basurhat A.H.C Govt. High School in 2013 and HSC from Govt. Mujib college in 2015. My
home district is Noakhali. As I am a student I must have a career goal. About my Career
planning, I have got few ideas but I haven’t started to research them. I have started to find out
about jobs that interest me and after that I will make a final decision. Before choosing my career
goal firstly I have to know what is career planning, what should I have to do for my career
planning.

What is Career Planning


Career Planning has a different meaning to everyone. Career planning is a subset of career
management. Career Planning applies the concepts of strategic planning and Marketing to taking
charge of one’s professional future. Career is an ongoing process and so it needs to be assessed
on continuous basis. This process of re-assessing individual learning and development over a
period of time is called Career planning. A career plan is a practical strategy that allows a person
to determine his own skills and interests, set career goals, and put actions in place that will help
him to reach there. It’s a continuous process, and it includes an overview of his current skills and
experiences.
According to Mondy and Noe- “Career planning is an ongoing process whereby an individual
sets career goals and identifies the means to achieve them.

Importance of Career planning


It is important to come up with your career planning as it gives the much needed direction and
makes it clear there that where you see yourself in future. It makes you aware of your strength
and weaknesses and the skills and knowledge that are required to achieve your goals in future. A
large proportion of our life is spent in achieving our career goals, thus it is very important to
make sure that right steps were taken and correct planning was done in the early years of your
life. There are very few lucky ones who are born with a clear mind and who knows what they
want from life and so it is very important to plan out things. Thus career planning is what gives
your career and in some way your life, true meaning and purpose. We have to remember that
career planning is a lifelong process and that in order to achieve our goals we need to have a love
and a passion for the mining industry, need to ensure that we have to continue throughout our
own career to actively and also have to develop own personality.
Career Planning Cycle
Career planning is the continuous process of thinking about your interests, values, skills and
preferences, exploring the life, work and learning options available to you and ensuring that your
work fits with your personal circumstances.
People make decisions in different ways. But there are three main factors in the career cycle and
that will be consider when we choosing our career. There should be needed to travel around the
cycle several times before make my final decision. They are:

Focusing on you means analyzing our own skills, learning styles, aptitudes, interests and job
expectations which will provide clues to the type of career that might suit you. Everyone has a
variety of skills they can use in today’s changing world and analyzing their own strengths that
will help them to decide which career to investigate further. To Identify our own skills it will
help us to become little different from others and can be an extra opportunity because skills act
as a basis for career choice and this should also provide one’s personality. If I am good at
something, this will provide clues about the type of career that might suit on me. Like, in
teamwork skills if I behave as a good team member that will help me out in my work place.
When I will work as a team member in meetings I have to listen fully others in meeting. I should
respect others opinions, encourage quieter members to contribute their own opinion and also
need to speak concisely to make my points. That will prove me as a strong team member I
always try to do like that.
Employers expect graduates to be a good communicator. A good communicator will listen to
others consciously and will ask questions frequently. They will wait for an opening before
making others point. In Writing they will write carefully and read the text thoroughly and will
check the spell.
Planning and organizing skills include the ability to manage the time effectively, prioritize tasks
and pay attention to the details that leads to successful implementation of a task and the ability to
initiate changes to plans if needed. A good organizer always arrived on timely ad always meet
deadline. In last month I organized my cousin’s marriage decoration planning and I tried to finish
my works what I have planned before. I made lists of all details to ensure my all aspects of plans
so that they may be covered. These all of things help me to find out my current skills, abilities
and experiences that will help me to understand what career path suits me and I make my career
goal by throughout of these things.

This section looks at what I like, the skills I would have to offer my employees, and the values I
have about work, to help me find out which sorts of career I would find satisfactions.

Exploring What’s out There


It is not enough just to analyse your skills, interests, motivations and learning style without
putting this knowledge to use. There need to research occupations and employment sectors to
help to find which sorts of career will be found as satisfying. Researching the day to day
activities in a job and economic health of the employment sector will inform about my decision.

My career goal is to be a BCS Cadre. I want to become an Admin Cadre because the most
colorful career in the civil service of Bangladesh is possible as an admin cadre. It is a very
prestigious job. The cadre of BCS Admin Cadre is as follows: Assistant Commissioner, Senior
Assistant Commissioner (UNO Rank) Deputy Secretary (Deputy Commissioner’s Status), Joint
Secretary, Additional Secretary. If BCS administration cadre is employed I will join the Deputy
commissioner’s office as assistant commissioner and Executive Magistrate. A deputy
commissioner works as a government representative in a district. A district administrator is the
person who has the power to communicate directly with the President and the Prime Minister.

The main function of this admin cadre is to coordinate the work of all other cadre officers. It is
also a work of conducting a mobile court. The opportunity to work will be given the opportunity
as Magistrate, AC(Land), UNO and Divisional Commissioner. After two years of joining, get
posting as AC(Land) and also get home and car facilities as a UNO. If there get posting in the
secretariat, you will join the five secretariat of the government (Bangladesh Secretariat, Public
Service Commission secretariat, Election Commission secretariat, parliament secretariat, Cabinet
secretariat as Assistant Secretary. There may be posting in different embassies outside the
country. Divisional training is in Shahbagh of Dhaka.

The biggest attraction of this cadre is the diversity of separateness. While other cadre will remain
with their work, there will have the opportunity to work in many organizations in the service
sector Like Ministry, posting in all the departments, directorates, boards, institutes and
corporations of government. That is to say, from your shoes stiches, your role of playback. In
here, the training and scholarships facilities will be very good. It can also be beneficial from
foreign tour and financially. There is a great chance to work in liens and lifts. And if there is a
lien and a dispersal, it can be financially beneficial. 75 percent of the deputy Superintendent of
the Government is appointed from the Admin cadre and the remaining 25 percent is from other
cadres.

Generally speaking, promotion in this cadre is fairly rough. In six years UNO can hope to
become Deputy Secretary in ten years. There is a lot of pressure on the job and vacation is less.
Though this cadre is the best place to serve the common people from near at all.

Reviewing Options and Making Choices


Career decision making is not a one off process. I have to find myself reviewing and reflecting
on my plans frequently. Beside that your own personality includes your own variety from others
and I have to improve my own personality by developing a warmer personality. It will be a best
version of Myself by making good connections with others, learning new things and having
some fun also. This reflection will affect the choices to make myself and be prepared to move
round the career planning cycle several times.

Make Applications
After all of the following activities this is the end of the process of thinking, reflecting and
researching so that the time I spend making applications. After making few applications, I need
to do more research or revisit other parts of the job and recruitment process and need to write a
cv. Because I want to be a admin cadre there have some process for this.
The Bangladesh Public Service Commission makes selection of higher categories of civil
servants through competitive examination on the basis of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Age
qualification and examination for direct recruitment) Rule-2014. The examination is called
Bangladesh Civil Service and the recruited officers called BCS cadres. Some of these are general
and some are technical and some are general and technical/ professional. Every year BPSC
requests the ministry of Public Administration to send cadre wise vacancy list. After getting
vacancy lists from the ministries, the ministry of Public Administration submits a list of job
vacancies of different Cadres to the BPSC.
Candidates have to fill up their application and submit it through online off Commissions
website within the schedule following the process of the Commission for taking part in
examination. No application will be accepted after deadline. The candidates have to attend three
steps exam for this. According to the BCS (Age qualification and examination for direct
recruitment) Rule-2014, a two hour preliminary test(MCQ) of 200 marks is held on different
branches of knowledge for evaluating the competency on the candidates. Those candidates who
pass the Preliminary Test are considered qualified for Written examination. Candidates must
obtain 50% marks in the written examination as qualifying marks. Candidates who obtain 50%
marks in aggregate in written examination are declared qualified for the viva voce. The total
marks of viva voce and intelligence test is 200. The minimum qualifying marks in viva 50%.
Candidates who have achieved pass marks in the written examination stage and viva voce are
entered into the merit list. The position of each candidate on the merit list mark obtained on the
written examination stage and viva voce. The candidates who have passed the viva voce but
cannot be selected for the cadre post because of having no vacancies are sorted in a group named
BCS non- cadre.
Conclusion
Career planning is a great way to ensure your career is going in the right direction. Not only does
it help to realize about passion, it also facilitates on career goals with tangible actions and aims.
At the very least, it will help to answer career goal questions at your next interview. By assessing
the situation there will additionally be able to determine and fill any gaps in your knowledge or
experience that might be holding you back from your dream job. For Your dream job you have to
make yourself with a great personality and a smart planning for your desire goal. A great
personality influences on career. Because I have also a dream job I also have to work on my
personality development and always be ready for the barriers and obstacles in front of my goal
path.
