P1 8F2/Mu – MU1

As they enter: Have playing from youtube video - (1) Mike Oldfield - Tubulars Bells Pt. 1
(Excerpt) 1973 – YouTube (in cover folder). REGISTER. (5mins)

Starter: Go to the following link

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zhdfscw/articles/z6h7jhv
Read, watch the videos just up to the quiz and then take the quiz as a class (10 mins max)

Main: Students should start learning the melody from TUBULAR bells. (20 - 25 mins)

RESOURCE: TUBULAR BELLS WORKSHEET (next to teacher PC in MU1)

They should try just the first 2 notes from the 14 note melody then, when they feel
confident, add the next 2 notes etc…. Many will be able to play the first 6 notes no
problem. Some will be able to play the whole thing.

Biggest problems: They play the E above the A – the E is at the bottom and can be played
with just the left hand on its own. eg

Right Hand A B G A c d etc

Left Hand E E E E etc

The more accomplished players should try to learn it with just their right hand and use
their thumb for the E note.

Plenary: Try to perform the melody at the same time (on Vibes sound – 118 or 109). Play
a snare drum to help keep them in time. (5-10 mins)

Assess the class – ask them to display either 1, 2, 3, 4, fingers:

1 Can play the melody really smoothly in time with one hand and can keep doing it
over and over
2 Can play the melody smoothly with two hands. Might make a mistake but can
find their place again.
3 Can play most of the melody smoothly but make mistakes. Can’t find their place
again that easily. Know where the notes all are.
4 Know a part of the melody and still working out where the rest of the notes are.

Try playing through with just those who deem themselves 1 or 2.

P2 – no cover required

P3 8B2/Mu –MU1

1. Same as above except that this is their second lesson so they will be more
accomplished at the performance part. They can start adding in the other parts
from the sheet.
Eg. Learn the bass and chords and perform on a string setting (050 or 054).
Your Plenary should just sound better, with potentially some on chords and others
playing the melody.

P5 7S/Dr - Restaurant assessment

Follow slides 10 and 11 on ‘The Restaurant_Mime Ppt’

1. Recap on slide 10 using the pictures. Use slides 2, 4 and 7 to decode the pictures
(don’t show students).

Slide 11 has all the criteria and characters they need to rehearse for their assessment.

They have already started rehearsing so they should know what they are doing.
