Area and perimeter come alive when you design your own
space
2. Key Concepts:
1. Building intellectual and emotional connections by
connect with previous knowledge of architecture or
emotions of know an architect possibly.
2. Students build on their interactive imagination by
interacting with the materials to create this dream
home they’ve imagined.
3. Students are also working on their active
engagement skills by participating in activities that
allow for constant active engagement.
3. Objectives:
1. Students will be able to create a hand-drawing and
digital form of a “dream home” using area and
perimeter formulas.

How does the Big Idea connect ideas across the
curriculum?
The big idea is tying together the math lesson theyre
working on of area and perimeter while also tying in a
small art aspect to the lesson.
Why is it important for students to know these
concepts?
These concepts outline what the students will be learning
and gaining from this lesson. It is important for them to
build these skills of creating connections between two
things as well as building up their imagination and
creativity. Being able to stay actively engaged will help the
students be able to remain focused and get work done.
How do the objects fully support learning across the
curriculum and how do they connect to the students’
lives?
The students are working on developing skills in both the
math portion of the lesson and the art portion of the
lesson.
How are these questions meaningful to the student?
This question gets the students thinking about why they
are doing this lesson and why it is important to them.
