Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

Levels of Technology Integration:

☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

This lesson supports learning in the classroom by being accessible to those with visual impairments. Padlet
allows audio recording to be posted to the discussion boards or anything their working on. This lesson also
helps the hearing impaired by making it easy to post captions under pictures and enlarge the posts. Students
can also respond via video or picture posting.

Lesson idea implementation:

The teacher will make the Padlet available to students through an online platform. Students will then
submit their responses on the Padlet for grading and review from peers and their teacher. This project will be
introduced as the class reads Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. As they read, students will take note
of important plot points and major characters. Once they have all of their notes and once they choose two
characters, they will write three paragraphs that summarize the plot and compare and contrast two
characters.
This project should not take longer than two class periods as it can be assigned for homework. Student
learning will be assessed through the coherency of their summaries and if they properly analyzed the
similarities and differences of two separate characters. Learning differentiation comes from how the students

can post to the Padlet by typing or recording audio to post their paragraphs. Either way, they will come up
with five sentences of information about each category: summary, similarity, and difference. The lesson
concludes once all the responses are submitted. To extend the lesson, the students could construct short
essays analyzing Treasure Island instead of in parts.

Reflective Practice:
I feel that these activities help students understand the story their reading by putting the basic ideas of the
plot into their own words. It also helps them grasp the difference between characters in a story and helping
them understand the different purposes different characters hold. To further extend the lesson, the students
could use what they typed in their responses to the Padlet as the structure for a short four or five paragraph
essays. They could also make PowerPoints to compare and contrast characters.
