1. A car traveling 56.1 km/h is 30.0 m from a barrier when the driver slams on the
brakes. The car hits the barrier 3.46 s later. (a) What is the car's constant
deceleration magnitude before impact? (b) How fast is the car traveling at impact?

2. A tennis ball is shot vertically upward in an evacuated chamber with an initial speed
of 20 m/s at time t=0 s.
a. How high does the ball rise?
b. Approximately how long does it take the tennis ball to reach its maximum
height?
c. Determine the velocity of the ball at t = 3 seconds.
d. What is the magnitude of the acceleration of the ball when it is at its highest
point?

3. Angry birds are out to get back to the Green Piglets who stole their eggs. Black Bird
positioned himself on a slingshot set at 30° from the horizontal. If Black Bird is 1 m
above the ground, determine his total time of flight if he wants to hit Piglet A who is
10 m away and 4 m above the ground. What is Black Bird’s initial velocity?

4. A water hose is used to fill a large cylindrical storage tank of diameter 1m and height
2 m. The hose shoots the water at 50 above the horizontal from the same level as
the base of the tank and is a distance 10 m away. For what range of launch speeds
will the water enter the tank?

5. A rock is thrown horizontally with an initial speed of 41 m/s from a cliff 32 m above
a lake. If air resistance is negligible, what is the velocity of the rock at the moment
of its impact with the water?

6. A stunt vehicle leaves an incline with a speed of 35 m/s at a height of 52 m above

level ground. Air resistance is negligible.
a) What are the vehicle’s vertical and horizontal velocity components as it leaves
the incline?
b) What is the vehicle’s time of flight?
c) What is the vehicle’s range, R ?

7. A particle moving along the x axis has a position given by x  24 t  2 t
3
 m, where t
is measured in s. What is the magnitude of the acceleration of the particle at the
instant when its velocity is zero?

8. A high speed elevator travels upward as given by:

𝑣(𝑡 ) = (4.2 𝑚⁄𝑠 2 )𝑡 − (0.18 𝑚⁄𝑠 3 ) 𝑡 2
Determine :
(a) The instantaneous acceleration of the elevator 10 seconds after starting from
rest.
(b) The maximum velocity attained by the elevator.
