CRISIS MANAGEMENT – AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR (AED)

a. Qualifications for Use

The AED Operator must have an AED Operation Certificate of Training conducted by Accredited Training
Center approved by (NRC) National Resuscitation Council. AED Operator shall include Concierge, Security
Officers, Building Officers, First-Aider & Female Building staff.

An AED operator name list should be kept in the Fire Command Centre (FCC).

Any Facilities Management staff/Concierge/Service Provider who discovered a person who requires
emergency medical help should first contact the FCC.

Building Supervisor/Building Officer and/or Security Officer on duty at FCC shall immediately dispatch a
First-aider and an AED operator to the scene and provide assistance.

Once the First-Aider/AED operator received the call, he/she shall quickly response to the scene, the First-
Aider is responsible to pick up the First Aid box from the FCC and the AED operator is responsible to pick
up the AED from the FCC or Concierge Counter, whichever is nearer.

Upon reaching the scene, he/she shall check and examine the degree of injury/sickness of the person and
provide suitable first aid treatment. In the event that AED operation is required, the AED operator and the
first aider should work together as a team and follow the instruction given by in AED box. At the same time,
he/she shall request FCC to call for an ambulance.

Building Supervisor/Building Officer and/or Security Officer in FCC shall also assign one to two more staff to
provide assistance to the First-Aider and the AED operator. They should provide crowd control and direct
the Ambulance Officers to the scene.

Building Supervisor/Building Officer and/or Security Officer in FCC shall inform the following persons:

- Building Operation Manager/Chief Tenant Relationship Manager/Assistant Building Operation Manager


- General Manager (FM)

In case the sick person is required be sent to hospital, the FCC shall assign a building staff to
accompany him/her.

Photos should be taken from the incident scene for reporting purpose.

d. After Operating a AED

Asst. Building Opr. Manager / Building Supervisor / Building Officer on duty inform Medtronic
representative to come on site to conduct inspection for the AED which was being used.

Medtronic representative will come on site and conduct inspection for the used AED to ensure all parts of
the equipment are in order.

e. Maintenance and Repair

AED Model-LIFEPAK 1000 is considered as maintenance-free, it will conduct an automated self-test


daily and will give out a visual and audio alarm to alert the client in the event that a mal-function or any
irregularity is found. Should such a warning alarm is discovered; Asst. Building Opr. Manager / Building
Supervisor / Building Officer must contact Medtronic at the numbers below immediately.

f. Bi-Weekly Inspection

The attached check-list should be used to conduct the checking for each AED bi-weekly, Sunday
morning. Complete maintenance check list must be kept in the Facility Management Office.
