Occupational Injury:
Any injury such as a cut, fracture,
sprain, amputation, that results from a
work accident or from exposure
involving a single incident in the work
environment

Occupational Illness:
Any abnormal condition or disorder,
other than one resulting from an
occupational injury, caused by exposure
to environmental factors associated
with the employee’s employment. It
includes acute or chronic illnesses or
diseases that may caused by inhalation,
absorption, ingestion, or direct contact.

Measurement Standards
Occupational Illness:
1. Occupational skin diseases or disorder
2. Dust diseases of the lungs
3. Respiratory conditions due to toxic agents
4. Poisoning (systemic effects of toxic
materials)
5. Disorder due to physical agents (Other than
toxic) materials
6. Disorders due to repeated trauma
7. All other occupational illnesses

Measurement Standards
Recordable Cases:
Any occupational injuries or illnesses that
result in:
1. Death; regardless of the time between the
injury and death or the length of the illness
2. Non fatal occupational illnesses; other than
fatalities, that result in lost workdays
3. Occupational Injuries; that result in transfer
to another job, or require medical
treatment, or involve loss of consciousness
or restriction of work or motion.

Measurement Standards
Medical Treatment:
Treatment (other than First Aid) administered
by a physician or by registered professional
personnel under the standing orders of a
physician
Work Environment:
The physical location, equipment, material
processed or used, and the kinds of operations
performed in the course of an employee’s
work, whether on or off the employer’s
permises.

Measurement Standards
Lost Workdays:
The number of days the employee would have
worked but could not because of occupational
injury or illness. The number of days includes:
1. The employee was assigned to another job
temporarily
2. The employee worked at a permanent job
less than full time
3. The employee worked at a permanently
assigned job but could not perform all
duties normally connected with it.
