“I don’t like surprises, I always want to know
what is going on and be in control,” Emma said.
This ‘need to know’ can manifest itself in some
very snoopy behaviour, David said.
So after Emma heard a jeweller’s phone mes-
sage saying her engagement ring was ready, she
turned into a “hawk”, David said.
“Emma was checking my phone to try to find
out what was going on,” he said.
“So I bought another phone and started send-
ing text messages posing as friends, that basically
said I was going to propose at a Swans’ game,” he
said.
But on the night of the proposal, David thought
all his preparations were about to be ruined.
“I had my suit on underneath my clothes, and
I looked at myself in the mirror and thought,
‘Oh no, Emma is going to notice, I look like the
Michelin Man’.”
“So I started turning off all the lights in the
house, and saying, ‘Come on we have to go to the
movies’.”
Once at the cinema, David waited for the lights
to go down to have his “Superman moment”.
He ripped off his clothes, donned the suit jack-
et, grabbed some flowers and waited for his on-
screen message to ask Emma to ‘turn around’ so
he could pop the question.
But David’s grand gesture did not stop once
the curtains went down, instead having a flow on
effect on those around him.
Family and friends have been inspired by the
romantic moment and have begun to do small
things for their loved ones.
“Every Sunday my family have a big breakfast,”
David said.
“The other week my mum said dad had cut the
potato chips out in the shape of love hearts for
her.”

in Five Dock, which caters for children with dis-

A free public health forum on sports medicine is
being held on Tuesday August 5 from 6.45pm to
9pm at Concord Hospital.
Residents are invited to the forum to gain an
understanding of sports medicine and its role
in preventing, diagnosing and treating injuries
related to sports and exercise. Professor Siri
Kannangara, Concord Hospital’s Head of NSW
Institute of Sports Medicine and Luke Rigney,
Concord Hospital’s Physiotherapist NSW Institute
of Sports Medicine, will lead a panel of experts in
a wide ranging debate about sports injury.
