Finite Element and Soft Computing model of backward metal flow forming process
Backward metal flow forming process is an advanced incremental forming process. Finite Element
based methods are utilized for modeling of this forming process. The developed FE based model
would help to understand the nature of forces, stresses and strains produced during the forming
process. Soft computing models are used to predict the final outcome of the flow formed tubes for a
set of input parameters. The developed model is useful as there is no available literature till date for
analytical modeling of flow forming processes.
Senior Research Fellow January 2015-July 2017
Project Name: Modelling of Metal Flow Forming Process by FE and SC based modelling.
Funding Agency: DRDL, Hyderabad.
Contract Letter No.: DRDL/24/OBP/13/0662/H1949, dated 26/05/2014
Client: DRDL, Hyderabad.
Masters Research August 2013 – June 2014
Advisor: Dr. Santanu Das
Determination of crack growth and propagation in Rheocasted Al-Si 356 alloy using ABAQUS
simulation software. The objective is to develop an exact microstructural model and to study the
means of crack growth in the same by means of the eXtended Finite Element Method (XFEM). It also helps
to predict the nature of crack growth in different phases of the microstructure. The project finds its vast
applications in the area of automobiles and in aircraft industries and thus helps in determining the microstructure
– property relationships in such alloys.
