PART I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background

In learning English, there are many things that must be known in advance, one of
which is the parts of words spoken or in English.

After mastering English well, then we will be able to communicate with other
countries in the world. In addition, we will also be able to add our insights and knowledge
to the progress of our nation and country, because we will be able to read English
literature, listen to foreign radio broadcasts, and watch other science films. There are so
many rules that must be considered in their use, especially in the field of writing.

Pronouns are words used to replace nouns, these nouns can be in the form of
humans, animals, places and abstract concepts. The purpose of using a pronoun can be
caused by many things such as being shorter, a name not mentioned repeatedly in a
sentence and the effectiveness of a sentence.

Therefore, the writer tries to make a paper about pronouns, besides fulfilling the
lecture assignment it is also intended that this short article can add to our insight about
English.

1.2 Problem Formulation

1. What is a pronoun?
2. What are the pronoun forms and examples?
3. What are the Pronoun Function ?

1.3 Purpose

From the above problems, the writer certainly aims to explain or explain these
points, in accordance with the knowledge we have obtained, both from books and other
sources. Hopefully all of them provide benefits for us. If there are writing errors or words
in this paper, the authors apologize profusely.
PART II

COUNTENT

2.1 Definition of Pronoun

Pronoun or pronouns are words used to replace people or things. There are 5
types of person pronouns, namely those that function as subjects (Subject Pronouns), as
objects (object pronoun), as adjectives (possessive adjectives), to express possessions
(possessive pronouns), and to express self-reflection (reflexive or reciprocal pronouns) .
Pronoun generally replaces the noun position as subject, object or complement. So we
can conclude that pronoun is a pronoun used to replace people, animals, and objects.
English pronouns (Pronouns) are words used to replace nouns, these nouns can be in the
form of humans, animals, places and abstract concepts. The purpose of using a pronoun
can be caused by many things such as being shorter, a name not mentioned repeatedly in
a sentence and the effectiveness of a sentence.

2.2 Pronoun Forms

Personal, Possessive, Reflexive Pronouns

To distinguish the three, consider the table below:

Personal Pronouns Possessive Pronouns

Subject Object Possessive Possessive
Reflexive
Adjective Pronouns
Pronouns
I Me My … Mine Myself
You You Your … Yours Yourself
They Them Their … Theirs Themselves
We Us Our … Ours Ourselves
He Him His … His Himself
She Her Her … Hers Herself
It It Its … Its Itself

Exampel:
1. I go with himto her house. (Artinya: Saya pergi dengan dia ke rumahnya)
2. He visits ourhome. (Artinya: Dia mengunjungi rumah kita)
3. Its tail is very long. (Artinya: Ekornya sangat panjang)

1    . Personal Pronoun

Personal Pronoun Is a personal pronoun or low who occupies the position of

subject and object.

Pronoun Subject: Pronoun which is the subject (main sentence)

Pronoun Object: The pronoun which is an object.

 John likes them.

 My sisters hate you.
 Can you lend me some money?

     2. Demonstrative Pronoun (Kata Ganti Penunjuk)

This = ini (digunakan untuk benda dekat tunggal), for example:

 This is my pen. (Artinya: Ini pulpen saya)

 What is this? (Artinya: Apa ini?)

These = ini (digunakan untuk benda dekat jamak), for example:

 These are our cars. (Artinya: Ini adalah mobil-mobil kita)

 What are these? (Artinya: Apa ini?)

That = itu (digunakan untuk benda jauh tunggal), for example:

 That is your pen. (Artinya: itu pulpen kamu)

 What is that? (Artinya: Apa itu?)

Those = itu (digunakan untuk benda jauh jamak), for example:

3. Indefinite Pronouns

Indefinite Pronouns is a pronoun used to replace people or objects and the

quantity is unclear.

Each = setiap, tiap-tiap, masing-masing

I have two watches, each costsRp. 100.000,-

(Artinya: Saya punya dua jam tangan, masing-masing seharga Rp. 100.000,-)

One atau Ones = yang lainnya, yang satu.

Example :

This car is new, but that one is old.

(Artinya: Mobil ini baru, tetapi yang satu itu sudah tua/ lama.)

Someone; Somebody; Somewhere; Anyone; Anybody; Anything;

Something; Anywhere

In this case some is used in positive sentences and any is used in negative sentences,
for example:

 I didn’t go anywhere.

One another = each other, for more than 2 people (satu sama lain, untuk lebih dari 2

1. Another = another, for indeterminate single objects (yang lain, untuk benda tunggal
tak tentu).
2. Others = other, for indefinite plural objects (yang lain, untuk benda jamak tak
tentu).
3. The other = the other, for a particular single object (yang lain, untuk benda tunggal
tertentu).

4. Interogative Pronouns

Interogative Pronouns Is a question word that is used as a pronoun, namely

Reflexive pronouns are pronouns which are reflections of the pronouns

themselves. These pronouns include myself, yourself, herself, itself, oursevels,
yourselves, and themselves. These words are used when the subject and object in a
talisman are the same person.

Example:

o I hit myself with a stick
o Jack hits himself with a hammer

The following sentences are incorrect:

 I hit me with a stick
 Jack hit him with a stick

But keep in mind, if the subject and object are different people, then the

 Here are the papers that you were looking for.
2.3 Pronoun Function
The pronoun function: to refer to something or someone instead of a noun that has
been mentioned in the previous sentence or the speaker and listener already know which
object is meant. If there is no pronoun we must repeat the word or phrase no matter many
times.

Example:

 Do you know the man over there? It seems the man is looking for something. Let’s
come near to the man. Perhaps we can help the man.

The background of the preparation of this paper is to broaden our horizons of the
authors and find an easy way to explain the material about Pronoun. The form of the
nature of Pronoun which is related to the understanding of Pronoun, the form and nature
of Pronoun and how it is applied / used.

It can be concluded that the pronoun is a pronoun that functions as a subject.

I, you, we, they, he, and she are used to change people. In addition, "they" are also
used to replace plural nouns. He and she can also be used to replace animals, especially
pets. And specifically for "she" can also be used to replace ships.

"It" to replace inanimate objects and a single plant.

He, she and it are singular subject (third-person singular) which is always
followed by singular verb.
