LITERATURE REVIEW

THEORETICAL INVESTIGATION

1. Sharvey Dhongde et al (2020): This paper discusses efficacy of use of shipping containers
to reduce the environmental and financial burden. It further elaborate on the
methodology employed in the design studio and also, the challenges and opportunities
in the use of containers for housing as faced by the students during the studio.

2. Ashraf Elmokadan et al (2019): This study focuses on presenting the idea of using
shipping containers in residential buildings in the Egyptian coastal area. The aim of the
paper is to suggest the best architectural design solutions suitable for thus specific
climate zone and can achieve the highest energy efficiency and thermal comfort for
users by using shipping containers as flexible components.

3. Jingchun Shen et al (2019): This paper explores future design challenges. helping the
shipping container to be up-cycled into a thermally comfortable and energy efficient
living module. The proposed conceptual design responds to new challenges with the
feature of a future built environment that would be characterized by low energy use,
low carbon footprint, higher average temperatures, increased average humidity level,
and preparedness to future: extreme weather events such as heat waves drought, and
extra-tropical storms.

4. . Edric King Hui Wong et al (2018): This research serves as basic reference for both
government and private sector to the future property industry development of shipping
container houses as well as shipping container non-residential buildings in Malaysia. The
purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of using ISO shipping container to build low
cost house.

5. Dr.llango T.Mr.Kalyana Chakravarthy P R et al (2018): This paper discusses on issues

faced by construction industries like cost overrun and lag in time. Because of these
issues the profit reduces and loss occurs. A lot of technics are used to overcome this
problems. One of the techniques used in Low-Cost construction, that is replacement of
conventional materials to alternative materials. The main target is to build a cost
effective construction for low-income group people without compromising the strength
of the building.

6. Karol Grebowski et al (2017): This paper presents the use of shipping containers in architecture
and urban designs the authors proposed a set of rules that, if followed, wood result in cheaper
apartments, while keeping in consideration both tremendous architecture and friendly urban
design. The proposed solution is designed to adapt the personalized requirements. It also
include informations about design guidelines for structures made from shipping containers.
7. Ecem Akar et al (2017): The objective of this study is to evaluate the advantages of
utilization of containers in the production of sustainable buildings through a systematic
approach. Different methods are utilized such as re-functioning, use of environmental
friendly methods in production, employment of building items suitable for climate and
topography, consideration of energy efficiency in the building life cycle, utilization of
renewable energy sources, use of local or traditional materials and minimization of
waste generation during construction and destruction process of buildings.

8. Ecem Akar ,Dr.Müge Belek Fialho Teixeira et al (2017): This paper aims to create a
system that provides people with humanely and equitable economic opportunities
through the harmony of the building environment with the natural environment.
Different approaches are utilized such as re-functioning use of environmentally friendly
methods in production. Increase of container usage in housing production will allow the
re-functioning of this material providing livable space which has superior qualities of
sustainability in terms of availability, work force, waste generation and cost reductions
and efficient energy use.

9. Hamidul Islam et al (2016): studied on life cycle assessment of shipping container home.
The prospect of using shipping containers in the building was assessed in terms of its
constructability and life cycle environmental impact. This research investigates the
recent usage of containers for home buildings and determines its constructability in the
building industry.

10. Ahmed Hosney Radwan et al (2015): on this study container having a very systematic
and regular shape, shipping containers could be reused to create not only functional
spaces, but also various configurations of architectural programs. or functions, that vary
from a very simple residential unit to a small office building extending to a shopping
mall, or a cultural center, that hosts a bigger number of users.

11. L. F. A. Bernardo et al (2011): This paper aims to contribute to a better knowledge of the
construction system using containers that is brought out as a structural project
normative aspects of the structural project also presented numerical analysis were
performed using a finite elements analysis program. This paper also presents the
analysis of a case study with the use of refurbished. shipping containers to build a single
family house. The evaluation of the strength of the refurbished shipping containers to
building actions is carried out.
