Question 8-14: How can a planning and mapping software help Hermes to achieve a

95 percent first time delivery target?

Answer: Today companies are making important business decisions based on data.

Managers understand the importance of business intelligence in the planning process.

Question 8-15: How can planning ensure that Hermes continues to meet its delivery

targets in the future and at times when there is bad weather or high peak-demand?

Answer: In order for Hermes to continuously meet its delivery targets in the future

and at times there is bad weather or high peak demand, it needs to apply the following

measures –

1. Management hierarchy needs to be flattened to effectively plan in dynamic

environments. company needs to allow lower organization levels to set goals and

develop plans because there is little time for goals and plans to flow down from

the top. Managers need to trust their employees to make set goals and plans and

trust them to do it.

2. Managers of Hermes need to develop plans that are specific yet flexible. So, the

plans can serve as a road map when destination changes due to dynamitic change

in environment.

3. Top level mangers need to let the employees know what their work unit need to

accomplish in specific time frame. When employees know what they need to do to

achieve organization goal, they co-ordinate their work activities and efficiently

achieve organizational goals during uncertain environments.

4. Managers must stay alert to environmental change and react accordingly. Even in

unpredictable environment managers must continue formal planning to maintain

organizational performance. In uncertain scenarios such as bad weather or climate

change, Hermes must plan far ahead to face the changes.

5. The quality of the planning and its implementation plays a bigger part in high

performance. So, through planning must be concluded by acquiring sufficient

business intelligence and by the usage of digital tools.
