1. GENERAL INFORMATION:
2. WORK PLANINNING:
LATHE MACHINE
It is one of the machines with the longest tradition and presence in machining
workshops around the world since this machine allows you to machine, thread,
cut, bore, roll, rough and slot parts in a geometric way per revolution.

1) FIXED HEAD: It contains the gears or pulleys that drive the workpiece and the feed units. It includes
the motor, the spindle, the speed selector, the advance unit selector and the advance direction
selector. It also serves to support and rotate the workpiece that rests on the spindle.
2) SPINDLE: A spindle is a type of long and large diameter screw, used to drive clamping elements
such as presses or jaws, as well as to produce the linear displacement of the different carriages of
milling machines and lathes, or in hydraulic gates.
3) MAIN SHAFT AND PLATE: The piece is placed on this axis so that it rotates. At one end it has a
shaft finished in a point that is mobile, called tailstock, to hold the piece at one point, at the other end
the piece is held with a plate.
4) APRON: It is the part of the car that faces down, in front of the operator. It contains the gears and
the advance clutches that transmit the movement of the master screw and of the longitudinal and
transverse carriage turning bar.
4
5) COUNTERPOINT: The tailstock is the element used to support and position the parts that are turned
between points, as well as other elements such as chuck or drill bits in the center of the shafts. This
tailstock can be moved and fixed in various positions along the bed.
6) MOVILE HEAD: It consists of the main carriage, which produces the movements of the tool in the
axial direction; and of the transverse carriage, which slides transversely on the main carriage in a
radial direction. In parallel lathes, there is also an adjustable upper carriage, in turn made up of three
parts: the base, the charriot and the tool-holder turret. Its base is supported on a rotating platform to
orient it in any direction.
7) BEACH: It serves as a support for the other units of the lathe. In its upper part it has guides through
which the moving head or tailstock and the main carriage move.

8) TOOL CART: Auxiliary Carriage or Tool Holder: it is a 360 ° rotating base and is mainly used to
make tapers or to penetrate the tool at a certain angle. The auxiliary carriage can only be moved
manually by turning the screw handle to advance it.
9) NORTON BOX: This box can consist of several movable gear trains or a tilting gear and a gear
cone, and connects the movement of the lathe head with the tool carriage that incorporates a
square-threaded spindle.
