Two of the Glasgow cross
country athletes had a good
showing at the Nike NXR
Northwest Regional meet held in
Boise, Idaho Saturday. This was the
first time the Scotties have had any
runner at a regional meet.
Iris McKean ran a time of
19:54.3 to finish 14th, while Tanae
Baker ran a 20:32.5 for 35th out of
over 400 harriers. Alixandria Keith
won the race with a time of 18:41.9.
“It was really good. I was
happy with it,” McKean said
about her first regional time. “I’ve
been wanting to go to Regional
since my sophomore year. Last
year it was canceled because of
COVID. So this was my last year
to go. I’m really glad I went. I
have to humble myself. I ran in
the open invitational. There’s also
a championship race that I could
have ran in. But since this was my
first time I didn’t know what to put
myself in. I still took fourteenth.”
McKean and Baker had
excellent competition from harriers
around the northwest.

The two Scotties ran against
Montana girls from Kalispell
and Bozeman. They also saw
competition from Idaho, Oregon
and Washington.
“Idaho, Washington and
Oregon are the nation’s biggest
powerhouse,” said McKean.
Glasgow also had five boys
run and as a team they were 22nd.
Grizz XL won the meet with 106
points, Mt. Spokane was second
with 106, Bozeman was ninth with
269, Kalispell 10th with 283, Helena
Novas 13th with 371, Team Scotties
had 567. 25 teams participated.
Lane Thompson led the
Scotties, running an 18:52.9 for
137th, Reed Larsen was 150th with
a time of 19:10.8, Dalton Sand
161st with a time of 19:23.9, Bergen
Thompson, and Kyler Holinde. The undergraduates
plan on hitting the road to Regional again in 2022.
Miller 170th with a time of 19:31.6,
and Kyler Holinde 192d with a time
of 19:59.4
“Competition was unlike what
we saw this year,” said Thompson.
“We went up against some of the
best kids in the region. It was almost
eye opening for me. Placing-wise, I
didn’t go into the race expecting to
do well. We weren’t hoping to place
high. We wanted the experience for
next year.”
“This was my first time going
out of state to do this,” said Larsen.
“I will do it again, but I’m going
to train harder. This just came
down to one last road trip. The
competition was tough. It was good
competition. A lot of good runners.
It was a really good experience.
Now I know what to expect next
year and to train for.”

“We’re going to be more
organized next year and ask the
whole team if they want to go,”
Larsen said. “This year it was a last
minute thing and kind of crazy.”
“We will take it more seriously
next year,” added Thompson.
“Definitely, training would improve
all of us and the team. We know
what to expect beforehand and
after,”

Summers finished 50th with a time
of 17:46.8. Nate Stadtlander ran a
16:32.6 to win the race.
The Scotties ran on a different
course than they are used to
running on. Normally the meets in
Montana are run on a golf course
with the grass, of black top and
in some on a gravel road. But this
course was different.
 “It was a grinder of
a course,” said McKean.
“There was a quarter of
a mile stretch of sand.
Like open beach sand. It
messed up everybody’s
stride. Then after the sand
was a small hill and then
a big hill. From the sand
to the hills, it was really
tough. And we ran that
twice.”
“It was a challenging
course,” added Thompson.
For that type of
course all of the Scotties
were happy with their
times. Now the athletes
that will participate in
track will start training
for that spring sport.
“I’m happy with
my time for the type of
course we ran on,” said
Larsen. “All of us were
happy with our times.
None of us were bummed
or anything. We had fun
doing it.”
McKean said that
she will take off until after
Thanksgiving. Larsen and
Thompson will take a
couple weeks off then hit
the black top to train. Tanae Baker (#1089) ran a fine race to finish 35th at the regional cross country meet.

Lower Yellowstone committee makes significant headway
The Lower Yellowstone River Corridor Advisory
Committee (LYRC Committee) has made substantial
progress since its first meeting in late August. The
committee met Nov. 8 in Miles City and is preparing to
submit its final recommendations for improving public
access along the river.
The LYRC Committee is a citizen group sponsored
by Gov. Greg Gianforte and convened by Montana Fish,
Wildlife & Parks. The group was tasked with exploring new
access, recreation and habitat conservation opportunities
