celebrates Virtual Educ Week 2021

LB held an Educ Week's virtual celebration on October 1, 4, and 5, 2021 with the theme "Gurong Filipino: Katuwang sa
Hamon, Kasama sa Pagbangon," Teachers: Leading in Crisis, Reimagining the Future."
The students
from the different Education
Department of CLB joined and
gladly celebrated the said
program. They are BEED,
BTLED and BPED Department.
The aim of this program is to
make the students, particularly
the future educators, acquainted
and know their co-scholars. Also,
it is a great help for them to
showcase their talents and skills
for the different contests.
Furthermore, it is in line for the
celebration of the day for the
uncaped heroes of all generations,
the teachers.

On the first day of the
celebration, it was started with
the CLB prayer, followed by the
Philippine National Anthem and the
CLB Hym. The masters of ceremony
were Ms. Rishel Mendoza and Mr.
Arjay Obaña, both came from BEED
IV-1. They took charge of hosting
with their enthusiastic and great
initiation of the program. For the
welcome remarks, Dr. Rosanni M.
Del Mundo, VP for Research,
Extension, Planning and
Development and also the Dean of
CEDUC Department, gave her
message. Afterwards, Dr. Karen A.
Bunquin, the Program Chair of
BPED gave the statement for the
purpose of this main event. She
reminded the students to be dedicated
and passionate with their future. The
College Administrator Dr. Lorna L.
Gappi and Dr. Doringer P. Cabrera
who is the VP for Academic Affairs
and the Dean of CBA Department
gave an inspirational messages. Dr.
Cabrera stated his acronym GURO,
which stands for generous, unselfish,
resilient and optimistic. He told the
students to always bear in mind these
four words because these are
necessary for their enhancement
towards future educator.
The first contest was Spoken
Poetry and Dr. Apolonio M.
Fababaer, faculty of CEDUC
Department, gave the guidelines and
mechanics for the said contest. The
next contest was entitled "Bida si
Mam, Bida si Sir" and Dr. Roselle S.
Rosales, faculty of CEDUC
Department, gave the guidelines and
mechanics for the contest proper. In
this contest, the advisers from
different CEDUC Department
showed their talents with their
selected students.
On the second day of the
program, same masters of
ceremony consistently made the
virtual audience to be still
energetic and lively. This day, it
was started with the competition of
Demonstration Teaching. Mrs.
Margorie E. De Jesus, Head of
Alumni Relations and also the
faculty of CEDUC Department,
stated the guidelines and
mechanics of the said competition.
It was followed by the contest for
TikTok Challenge. Mr. Mark Don
Bathan, the faculty of CEDUC
Department enumerated the
guidelines and mechanics to be
kept in mind by the participants.
For the third and last day,
there was a competition for research
presentation. The presenters were all
came from fourth year BEED
students and their researches
presented were all their research
paper conducted from their previous
year. There were ten (10) group
presenters, five from BEED IV-1 and
also five from BEED IV-2. Each
group presenters chose three
members to present their powerpoint.
The allotted time was ten minutes
and after this was also ten minutes
for the question and answer regarding
their research presentation.

CLB’s 16th Founding Anniversary

Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas will hold its 16th Founding Anniversary Celebration through virtual space on October 29, 2021.

The program will start with the National Anthem and will be followed
by CLB Hym. The masters of ceremonies are Ms. Melissa Ebora and Mr. Mark
Don Bathan, who will initiate the program with an emphatic greeting to
everyone.
CLB is a higher education institution which has been continuously
serving Batangueño youths since it was established in 2006. It was founded by
the former Batangas City Mayor, Eduardo B. Dimacuha. Just a few of the
highlights from the celebration of the numerous student competitions and
employee awards, students can demonstrate their knowledge of CLB as their
second home. Mayor Eddie's goal is to be able to create a school for people
who can‘t afford to attend school due to financial constraints. Every year, the
CLB commemorates the founding of the school, demonstrating that Mayor
Eddie's ambition has come true. With all of the success, CLB can't forget about
the people who made it possible, so the award will be given to the employees
whom obtain 5, 6, 10, 11 and 15 years in service and these are Mr. Carlo
Garcia, Mrs. Imelda Marino, Ms. Maria Corazon Castillo, and Mr. James
Macalalad, to appreciate and recognize their contribution and hard work in
keeping what was once a dream alive. In continuation of the program, Dr.
Karen Bunquin, Mr. Meliton De Guzman Jr., and Mrs. Margorie De Jesus
were assigned to the Modified Pecha Kucha. To add some spice to the
program, Mrs. Cristina Morfi and Mrs. Margorie De Jesus were assigned to
compile the video greetings from random people that have been part of the
CLB for the past few years. Mr. Marcos Borbon was assigned to the technical
work, while for the certificates, invitations and editing, Ms. Jeramie Meliton

Quality Assurance Agencies
(NNQAA) had a Virtual Awarding
Ceremony via Zoom.
The event gave NNQAA an
opportunity to recognize the
institution as they awarded Colegio
ng Lungsod ng Batangas (CLB) a
certificate of program accreditation.
The NNQAA serves as the umbrella
organization of the Accrediting
Agency of Chartered Colleges and
Universities in the Philippines
(AACCUP) at Commission on
Accreditation for Local Colleges and
Universities (ALCUCOA).
According to CLB College
Administrator Dr. Lorna Gappi, the
certificate of program accreditation
the winners were BPED 2 with Mr.
Mark Don Bathan (third place),
BEED 2 with Dr. Roselle Rosales
(second place), and BTLED 1 with
Ms. Marilou Custodio (first place).
For the Poster Making contest, the
winners were Christel D. Cleofe,
BPED II-1 (third place), Iona Bianca
Mendoza, BEED II-2 (second place),
and Gilly Arellano, BEED III-2 (first
place). For the Demonstration
confirms the college‘s curricular
programs' candidate status.

status from ALCUCOA last March,
which is the first stage of
accreditation.

SEC Online Election was held on October 8, 2021, for all CLB
students via Google Form.

System Amidst the COVID-19
Pandemic.”
This orientation aims to give
service and awareness of students
and parents relationships. The
orientation hosted by Sir Meliton De
Guzman started with a CLB prayer
followed by the National Anthem.
Virtual Orientation is divided into
two parts: Students and Parents
Orientation.
In her opening remarks, Ms.
Odessa J. Bagos, Head Guidance &
Counselor, gave her best to give a
meaningful introduction to parents
orientation by reminiscing about the
past and comparing it to the new
normal. In addition, she talked about
the challenges of the new normal and
opportunities for families. Dr. Leonor
A. De Guzman, a college physician,
on the other hand, discussed Covid-
19 and provided proper ways to
prevent the virus. She also discussed
the difference between home
quarantine and isolation.
Furthermore, she emphasized
social responsibility that protects
themselves, their families, friends,
and their colleagues. "Tayo ay
magtulong-tulong na masugpo ang
pandemyang ito. Hindi mga doctor o
frontliners ang poprotekta sa bawat
isa kundi ang ating sarili din lamang,

as they are used in online classes and
synchronous session netiquette.
Moreover, she talked about the
grading system and the schedule of
online consultations, which were
helpful to students as they learned
how and where they could find
information in any situation. To
continue the program, Ms. Kimberly
Ann M. Villanueva, College
Registrar, discussed registration
services and gave information on
how students can consult them
regarding their problems or issues on
their portal. Also, she explained the
dean's list qualifications and the
students' queries.
On the other hand, Ms.
Odessa J. Bagos tackled the services
of the Guidance and Counseling
Office. She introduced the four
services they can offer, which are
counseling/telecounseling,
information, individual inventory,
and referral/follow-up. Also, she
quoted, "You are valued and you
matter, because we value your safety.
We may be distant and far physically,
but in our heart and spirit, we are
family. Always Remember, We are
all in this together! " And for the last
speaker, Ms. Isabel Alea, College
Librarian, showed a tutorial and
some information about Google
workspace, student portal, and other
concerns.
The said orientation gets to
keep in touch with their students and
parents' relationships amidst the
COVID-19 pandemic. Nonetheless,
they may be far apart physically, but
the love and connection will not be

T his COVID-19 pandemic

all aspects of life. It has been the
agony of every individual which
brings intricate feelings. This issue is
a serious one and should not be
neglected. But amidst this situation,
life must go on and everyone must be
resilient for the changes this

pandemic transports. With this, we
can still have great learnings from
this COVID-19 context.
We all know that COVID-19
pandemic is very upsetting because it
still doesn't stop and there are
continuous cases from different
regions and places in the country.
However, there are ways to avoid,
lessen, and eventually eradicate this
virus that puts the people to anxiety
and depressions. The government
must be supporting endlessly. There
are a lot of health protocols and laws
for the people to follow for the safety
and be free of the said virus, too.

Actual classes
provide better
opportunities

I never imagined living a life with
virus that killed so many people.
Because of the pandemic, people
stop doing what they used to do.
Things were different now, people
suffered from crisis, most of them
lost their jobs, and education is now
being done through modular and
virtual classes. It is good that we can
continue studying despite the
pandemic but somehow there are
students who suffer from blended
learning. There are parents who are
not capable of teaching their children
because they have to work in able for
them to survive. That is why the
students have to deal with their
modules by themselves. I felt happy
when the government announced that
there's a possibility of having face to
face classes for the next academic
year. Actual classes inside the
classroom provides better
opportunities to all students. They
can freely ask questions or state their
opinions. Students can build better
communication and relationship with
each other. At school, there were
collaborative activities that can
enhance their skills, knowledge, and
confidence. Yes, we are in the
pandemic right now but there are
ways on how to secure the safety of
the teachers and students. Students
can be divided to minimize the
number of students per classroom.
They can be divided into different
sessions wherein the teacher can
teach the most essential learning
competencies to the students. It is
better option because unlike online
classes, students rely more on the
internet they aren't learning, they are
just complying for the sake of their
grades. Actual experiences best suit
young learners because experience is
the best teacher and face to face
classes offers more concrete
experience and learning.

now through online classes
in order to continue our education
system. As the new members of the
institution, some of the first year
students were asked the question:
As an online learner who
relies on mobile data connection,
financing my online classes is
difficult, especially now that we are
experiencing financial difficulties at
home. Now that we're taking online
classes that necessitate a consistent
internet connection, it's a challenge
when the connection goes down.

Adaptability
One of the challenges is how
to adapt to the new normal set up
when it comes to online distance
learning. Our situation today appears
to be very different from what we
expected. In just a blink of an eye,
our so-called homes have
transformed into workplaces and
avenues for learning, preparing us for
what we call the new normal.
The COVID-19 virus has
brought many disruptions, not only to
education but to our everyday lives.
From the usual norms that we are
accustomed to, working on-site and
studying inside the classrooms, we
now adapt academe into LMS and
online platforms or blended learning.
For me as a student, I find
difficulty to adjust to an online
learning environment. Because of the
sudden change, I find it a bit difficult
to adapt to computer-based learning
especially I am not so accustomed in
using gadgets and online platforms.
It helps me that I openly accept the
new learning environment and the
new ways of learning. I should not
stop learning because there are many
ways that I can do to adjust and learn
in this time of uncertainty. I should
be flexible and ready to face the
challenges that I may encounter in
online distance learning.

We are all aware how hard
the situation we are facing right now.
Personally, as a student in this
time that we are doing online classes,
I encountered so many struggles that
made me stronger such as having
poor internet connection and lack of
gadgets to use. I also have a part time
job, that‘s why it's hard for me to
attend some of my classes while
working but thankfully I can manage
my time properly. The hardest
challenge that I am still facing is my
responsibility inside our home. As a
breadwinner and the eldest, it's hard
for me to manage when I am
bombarded with so many activities
on school and problems at home. But
I am grateful because CLB has this
so called, "Mental Break", for it
helps the students to take a rest even
for a day.

encountered in online classes are lack
of internet connection, insufficient
gadgets, and my relationship to my
classmates because I am the class
president. Lack of internet
connection because even though we
have Wi-Fi, the internet speed is not
enough or sometimes it is very slow.
Another one is when it comes to
gadgets. Majority of the affordable
gadgets now are not compatible to
the online platforms that is necessary
to use for online classes. Yes, the
school provides tablet for the
students and as far as I know the
CLB staffs are just waiting for the
additional tablets so they can lend it
to students who are not given
because the number of tablet is not
enough for the number of CLB
students. Lastly, my relationship as a
president to my classmates. When
some of my classmates need support,
it‘s hard for me to talk to them online
but as long as I can, I find ways on
how to boost their self-esteem and
help them on solving their problems.
I advise them that we need to work
and help each other so that we can all
graduate and take the career that we
want in our life.

I could relate CLB as an eyeglasses.
At the point when I'm actually
making plans for my future and still
didn't know about CLB, I couldn't
clearly see my direction on how I'm

government of Batangas
City. It offers five different
programs and its main objective is to
give free education to those poor but
well deserving students, as the
members of the college community
who stays for atleast more than two

has been a place that has honed my
skills and helped me improve my
being in all aspects. To be honest,

In the year 2018, according to
Korean Foundation the Philippines
Why does it spread rapidly just like a
corona virus? First, was because of
their Korean movies and drama
series, aside from the handsome and
beautiful faces of the Korean actors
and actresses‘ people are attracted to
it because k-dramas are mostly
relatable. South Korean dramas began
broadcasting in the Philippines in the
year 2003. The leading television
networks for airing Korean dramas
are GMA, ABS-CBN, and TV5. The
impact of these movies and
dramas in the Philippines is more than
whatyou could imagine.
The second reason was the k- pop
music and idols. What is these k- pop
idols? They are a group of people who
were idolized by others throughtheir
different language, you might not
realize but the songs such as
―Gangnam Style‖ and ―BBoom
BBoom‖ were also a K-pop songs,
and it became a dance craze in the
Philippines for a long time. With the
upbeat and unique styles of their
music, people tend to get more hook
and addicted to it. Through the
continuous popularity and influence
of these idols, the rises of ―hallyu‖
wave are tripled than before.
Lastly is the Korean culture and
products. Many Filipinos visit
Korea just to experience a
littleculture of Koreans. Some also
pursue to study Korean languages,
arts, and history just to feel connected

stores, Korean food products can be
seen. The big impact of ―hallyu‖
wave here in the Philippines was
amazing and rapidly increasing.
It was good to appreciate
other cultures and products, but we
must never forget to patronize our

endorse and give pride to it. ―Hallyu‖
wave was like a small drop of water

hen the times na hindi...alam niyo na gusto ko nang sumuko
dahil sa dami ng pagsubok na pinagdaanan, nakaya nating
mga Pilipino," mga katagang binitiwan ni Hidilyn Diaz
matapos ang pagkapanalo sa Olympics Tokyo 2020.
Isang makahulugang salita
bunga ng karanasan. Lingid sa ating
kaalaman, hitik sa hamon at mahaba
pa riyan ang kwento ng pagtitiyaga at
pagpupursige ni Hidilyn Diaz bago
nakamit ang unang gintong medalya
ng bansa sa olimpiyada.
Si Hidilyn Diaz ay laki sa hirap.
Ayon sa kanya kinailangan niyang
magtinda ng gulay at isda noong nasa
elementarya pa siya. Tubong
Zamboanga City na kung saan sa
maliit na gym siya unang nagsanay
gamit ang pinutol na puno. Ang
naging una niyang coach ay ang
kanyang pinsan na si Catalino Diaz.
Itinuturing na "small but
terrible", ni weightlifting coach
Antonio Agustin. Kahit siya ay 5 feet
lamang ang height ay likas itong
malakas at determinadong manalo sa
bawat laban.
Bago pa siya nakahawak ng
bakal na barbel na gawa sa semento
na siyang gamit niya na unang pinag-
praktisan niya noong panahong iyon.
Totoong hindi matatawaran ang

nagbigay karangalan sa bansa, tulad
ni Hidilyn Diaz.
Sa taong 2008 Summer
Olympics, siya ay napasama bilang
wild card entry lamang. Siya ang
pangalawang Pilipino na weightlifter
na napasabak sa Olympics ngunit
natatangi at unang babae sa
kasaysayan ng Philippine
Weightlifting sa Olympics. Natapos
niya ang kompetisyon sa pwestong
panglabing-isa sa labing-dalawang
manlalahok.
Makalipas ang tatlong taon,
sumabak ulit siya sa 2012 Summer
Olympics. Siya ang naging kauna-
unahang Pilipina na lumahok sa
magkasunod na Olympics sa pagsali
niya Women's Weightlifting sa
kategoryang under 58 kg sa
Continental at World Qualifying
Tournament. Nasungkit niya ang
pang-siyam na pwesto tungo sa
Olympics nang taong iyon. Napili din
siyang maging flagbearer para sa
Opening Ceremony ng 2012 London
Olympics. Ang coach niya rito ay si
Tony Agustin. Target nilang makuha
ang 225 kg lift, anim na kilong higit
sa personal best ni Hidilyn na 219 kg.
Kahit na tagumpay siyang higitan
ang kanyang personal best sa snatch
(97 kg), bigo siya sa clean and jerk
matapos tangkaing maiangat ang
barbel nang tatlong beses. Isa lamang
siya sa dalawang manlalahok sa
paligsahang ito na nagtapos sa
opisyal na resultang "Did not finish".
Nirecruit siya ng Philippine Air
Force noong 2013 at natalaga sa Air
Force Special Service Group. Noong
2014 ay napromote siya mula sa
ranggong Airwomen tungong
Airwomen Second Class.
Hanggang sa taong 2015-2016,
kahit may timbang na 56.28 kg
lamang siya noong unang mapasabak
sa Olympics, pinakamagaan sa lahat
ng manlalahok. Para mas lumaki ang
tyansa niya na makasungkit ng
medalya sa 2016 Olympics,
napagpasyahan siyang bumaba sa
kategoryang 53 kg. Napatunayan
naman itong epektibo nang
masungkit niya ang gintong medalya
sa 1st Southeast Asian Weightlifting
Championship sa Bangkok, Thailand.
Nakakuha rin siya ng tatlong bronze
medals sa World Weightlifting
Championship na ginanap sa
Houston, Texas noong Nobyembre
22, 2015 na nagqualify sa kanya sa
2016 Rio Olympics. At noong Marso
2016, domino niya ang 58 kg event
ng 2015-2016 Philippine National
Games na ginanap sa Lingayen Town
Plaza sa Pangasinan.
Napromote ulit siya sa ranggong
