2. What is the texture of the

pillow?
3. How about the rock?

4. What organ helps you to

feel these things?
Do you have any idea what
we are going to discuss
today?
Objectives:
Identify the parts of the skin.
Describe the
structure and
functions of the parts of the skin.

Give ways to take care of the skin.

Your SKIN is the sense organ for
feeling or touching. It is the
largest sense organ covering
your entire body.
An average person's body is
covered with skin big enough to
cover a small table for four
persons.
The skin covers the entire surface of
the body. It protects the others parts
of the body from deep injuries and
prevents the entry of harmful germs.
Part of the Skin
1. Epidermis
- It is the outer layer of the skin.
- This layer is as thick as two sheets
of notebook paper in most body
parts.
Epidermis

It produces brown-black
pigment called MELANIN.

MELANIN gives color to the

skin.

2. Dermis
- This is the layer under the
Epidermis.
- It is made up of fibrous and
elastic layers.
Dermis

It is the thickest layer

of the skin.
The sensory receptors
are located in the
Dermis.
Part of the Skin
3. Sweat Gland
- It is the small coiled
twisted tubes.
Sweat Gland

It controls body
temperature. As the
water in the sweat
evaporates, the surface
of the skin cools.
Part of the Skin
4. Sweat Pore
- It is a tiny opening where
sweat comes out.
Sweat Pore

When you sweat, your pores

relax and open up, allowing
those harmful contaminants
to wash away.
Part of the Skin
5. Hair Follicle
- The tiny sac where the
hair grows.
Hair Follicle

Hair starts growing at the

bottom of a hair follicle. As
more cells are created, the
hair grows out of the skin
and reaches the surface
Your skin sends messages to
your brain to help identify the
texture of objects that you
touch and the sensations that
your body feels.
